  9. JoAnn says:

He was a fantastic young boy when i meet him. I lived on the same block three houses up from him for 16 years. His father was a wonderful man, along side his incrediable MOM. My heart goes out to his Family. I will keep you in my prayers. I’m so so sorry!

  10. KPMc says:

Let’s blame the mayor for not making dark subway tunnels more friendly to graffiti artists vandalizing city property in the middle of the night.

  11. FAMILY MEMBER says:

OUR HEARTS GO OUT TO THE MOTORMAN AS WELL. IT WAS NOT ON PURPOSE. HIS FATHER WORKED TO THE TA BEFORE HE DIED AS WELL.

  12. ROBIN says:

  14. Gone But NEVER Forgotten says:

@Loser & @get a job… before you go passing judgements why don’t you take a step back and try to understand the situation. How dare you JUDGE ANYONE without knowing them. It is people like you who make the world a cruel and bitter place. This young man, who has gone through a hell of a lot he last few years has just begun putting his life back together piece by piece. No one is perfect and I’m more than sure both of you have done things you’re not proud of. People make mistakes, this was an unfortunate one. I don’t wish bad on people but I HOPE TO GOD THAT ONE DAY SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAPPENS TO SOMEONE IN YOUR FAMILY AND YOU GET THE COLD IDIOTIC CHILDISH REMARKS THAT YOU GIVE ABOUT OUR FAMILY MEMBER and see how you feel. If you really feel this way, then why don’t you step out behind your keyboard and say it to our faces….

    1. Mike says:

    2. Josephine says:

Sorry for your loss and my prayers go out to you and your family. Remember the good about your cousin. Try your best to ignore the comments from the ignorant, insensitive people who find it necessary to post their unwanted/unnecessary comments.

  16. AM1024 says:

DOUBLE R: YOU TALK ABOUT PROVIDING FOR A FAMILY AND WORKING HARD BUT WHAT IF IT WERE YOUR CHILD OR YOUR WIFE THAT GOT HIT BY A TRAIN AND DIED. I HIGHLY DOUBT YOU WOULD BE SAYING YOU FEEL BAD YET IN THE NEXT BREATH COMPLAINING THAT YOU WERE LATE FOR WORK.

RIP M. HE WAS A NICE KID.

  17. Boss says:

This man who was killed was a amazing person. I only met him a few months ago, but he is such a great man. He was 19 years old, & this should hae never happened to him. I wish I was able to see him & for everything to be okay. God only takes the good people first. Till we meet again sweet angel :-*

  18. ham07 says:

purple lady, i hope you get hit by a car walking to school

  19. Thomas says:

I find your comment to be completely despicable. I am very close friends with the young man’s family who passed away this morning. He was an amazing person who made a poor choice. A family is grieving with a huge and tragic loss. How dare you post something so deplorable. Shame on you.

    1. A PARENT says:

HE WAS A DEAR FREIND TO MY SON AND I AM TRYING TO REACH OUT TO THE BOYS MOTHER….HAS ANY ARRANGEMENTS BEEN MADE..WITH OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY AND CONDOLENCE…RIP…NEVER FORGOTTEN

    2. family member says:

No arraingemnts have been made yet. Check with local church in a day or so. I am a family member, to all you who were late for work, to bad. It wa a tragic loss. He was more than what the news reports. He was LOVED by a mother, grandmothers, a brother, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Thank you to the people who have offered their compassion. He is missed & in our hearts.

    3. TC says:

I am sure everyone on here has a loved one or family… and you talk like this? God will judge each and everyone….dont think you can pass GO…. wont be easy….
This is so sad, before judging anyone….you dont know what GOD has in store for you.

    4. chris says:

so the next person in ur family to die is a grown up loser who should be raped by the devil with oversized pineapples repeatedly for eternity….. the person had friends and family so think before you speak, and work overtime for the 8$s you lost.. FURSELF!

  20. a freind says:

where did you get that info

  21. Double-R says:

Still think I’m insensitive? How about that train operator? I see no one’s discussing how scared out of his friggin mind after hitting a guy. All of you, put yourselves in the T/OIs shoes. This is your livelihood now. This is how you make your money to raise your family. You just hit a guy with your train and now you’re being scrutinized. Throwing the e-brake wasn’t enough. But yet, I’m the most inseneisitve person here.

    1. Aceof Spades says:

Well If he is anything like the rest of the people posting on this news clip then he probably doesn’t care either.

    2. RM says:

YOU TALK A LOT ABOUT WORKING HARD & SUPPORTING YOUR FAMILY BUT YOU HAVE A LOT OF TIME & ENERGY TO POST REPEATLY ABOUT A YOUNG MAN YOU DID NOT KNOW.
WHY NOT TAKE THE ENERGY & PUT IT TO BETTER USE. MAYBE YOU COULD VOLUNTEER WITH YOUTH AT RISK OR SOMETHING.

  22. not perfect says:

fk! i wish this would have happened during rush hour! why did it have to be at 5:30 and not 7 or 8?

    1. Double-R says:

Allow me to take a complete shot in the dark here and say, maybe he wasn’t trying to schedule this to coincide with the peak of the AM rush.

  23. Considerate says:

Actually Joe, I was born and raised in NYC, so consider me a transplant.

  24. Barbara says:

the person that was killed was a 19 year old young man who has a widowed mother, grandmother and brother who are all desperate with grief…thank you all for your compassion. He was a great kid and it is a loss to all.

    1. Double-R says:

If in some chance or another you know them all personally, send my sympathies their way. I know what it’s like to lose a loved one. Heck, I’ve lost a few already. God bless each and every one of them. May he rest in peace.

    2. Double-R says:

My prayers are with everyone affected, Barbara.

    3. j says:

Barbara, Thank you for your comment. This a tragic loss to my family

    4. RON says:

      Barbara did u know M ?

  25. Considerate says:

It is good to know there are a few compassionate souls in New York. Glad we don’t see these selfish fools here in the south.

    1. joe says:

Oh, that’s right. People in the South are the beacon on compassion when it comes to the welfare of others. Yes, you guys have a long history of that, don’t you.

      1. Double-R says:

        Bah-dum-tsssss

  26. Laura Saiter says:

anyway, we’re talking about a death on the train. I was trying to get to that very station a couple days ago and couldn’t so I missed work myself. We should be told what happened as well

  27. Akritas Smith says:

I got to the station when the Med.Examiners people were trying to bring the victim to their car. People were pushing to go down to get on the train past the body.

I have never in my life seen such vulgarity,it was like ” too bad moron ” I have to go to work”, and they were pushing past the officers. The officers were rolling thier eyes.

Uncivilized and vulgar creatures are on the roll, for now.

  28. Frustrated says:

MTA did not do a good job this morning. The announcement at 7.40 am on the platform at Whitehall to commuters to take other services because of an incident and that the delay will be about 20 minutes. Barely 30 seconds later, the R train arrived. This inaccurate announcement almost costs a lot of train riders to leave the station and lose a trip. Why can the MTA be more accurate and up to date on information?

    1. Doulbe-R says:

Consider this….you’re talking about Whitehall so, you’re way ahead of the diversions that were taking place in Brooklyn. Chances are, there was an R train already in the DeKalb tunnel that made it ahead of the order to start diverting trains, and that the next ones after were the ones being hung up and turned around.

Same thing happens on the L when they need to turn trains around. You’ll see them stacked up at each station if they’re being turned at Broadway Junction or Myrtle – Wyckoff.

  29. Tim K. says:

I’m glad to the bottom of my heart that you don’t get it, @holy bananas. I wish more people in the world didn’t understand how one winds up getting hit by a train or drowning where there are no waves. Sad to read the news this AM — it was already a gray day here in nyc.

  30. Iris says:

The person that you are talking about he is dead where is your sympathy for his family the men killed himself and all you worry about is that you are going to be late this is why the world is the way it is because of people like you incredible what would it had been if it was one of your family members people out here with no emotions or a heart and no compassion for others wow . People are not thinking about who knows what was going through that persons mind or what happen was he pushed, did he fall, they just assume that he is the idiot that is making everyone late that is why we all have cells to call our jibs if something is going on you don’t know this person God Don’t like ugly. May god forgive everyone who is so grimy about something so crucial.

  31. Double-R says:

This happened on the L line about about a couple of months ago. *smh* Yea, its an inconvenience to people who depend on the subway as their only mode of transportation to get to work but, this is sad. For whatever reason, someone got killed by getting hit by a train. That’s the bigger picture here.

Oh, and just in case…I’ve lived in Brooklyn all my life. I Take the subway to get to the city and the LIRR from Penn. I gotta get to where I have to go or I get docked on my paycheck. That – my transplanted NYers – is the cold, hard truth. Yes, someone died. Its unfortunate. I pray for this person’s family but, we all have lives to live, our own families to raise, our own homes to secure. We all look out for NUMERO UNO because no one else is going to do it for us.

    1. pugphan says:

I’d rather live free with capitalism, with all of its downsides, then secure as a slave under socialism with the state taking care of all my needs. Yea even if I have to starve and go without social health care. There is no perfect system in this world, but believe it or not capitalism is light years ahead of the rest. smokersodysseycom
That aside, may he RIP, and God bless his family.

      1. ari says:

        @pugphan

yawn. people like you make me sick. that’s my opinion of all of YOU since I’m forced to hear your ignorant one every day. There. Universal Health Care saved me I wouldn’t have gotten the treatment I need without it. And no, it’s not because I’m “lazy” it’s because I’m self employed and could not get it through my job. Up yours.

    2. scoobs says:

u have to be the most insensitive person on this site! definitely from the “me” generation!! YOU will be all alone with your ‘SELF’ when you die….maybe the devil will join you!

      1. Double-R says:

Here’s an idea…attempt to raise a family, get a job, have to deal with the morning rush, and while you’re at it, read the parts were I talked about how sad and unfortunate it was, and how I was praying for the person’s family.

Still think I’m insensitive? By the way, since you threw in a biblical reference, judge not, lest ye be judged. You don’t know me from a hole in the wall so, I’m giving you the benefit of the doubt in you knowing where YOU can step off.

        READING IS FUNDAMENTAL

  32. M says:

They can try to sue the MTA but they won’t win. The MTA is not responsible for the safety of their riders.

There have been similar cases. I know. I was one of them.

Been there, done that. I don’t recommend it. It’s unwinnable. Even with the best attorney.

  33. Iris says:

The person that you are talking about he is dead where is your sympathy for his family the men killed himself and all you worry about is that you are going to be late this is why the world is the way it is because of people like you incredible what would it had been if it was one of your family members people out here with no emotions or a heart and no compassion for others wow . You are the piece of garbage that should be eating by rats people don’t think before they put a comment this person died where is your compassion disgusting this world will be going to hell with people like you maybe you should think if it were a family member of yours what compassion you are a sick person.

  34. Iris says:

The person that you are talking about he is dead where is your sympathy for his family the men killed himself and all you worry about is that you are going to be late this is why the world is the way it is because of people like you incredible what would it had been if it was one of your family members people out here with no emotions or a heart and no compassion for others wow .

  35. Ally says:

Should yahoo take down the posts of stupid garbage? If so, they can start with yours.

    1. BOB says:

      no they shouldnt

  36. laurie wittig says:

What a shame. Also, the greatest city in the world should have the greatest people in the world. Come on New Yorkers, show some compassion. I hope his family is all right. My prayers go out to them.

    1. Ellen says:

Laurie, I feel sorry for the man in question, but can assure you it’s not just New Yorkers that can be insensitive. I’m from Massachusetts and if you want to see insensitive just go on the Boston Herald site. It’s all around,

  37. Leonard says:

Speaking as someone who has battled depression, I’m appalled at all of the insensitive remarks. New Yorkers are the most callous people.

  38. patrick says:

A person died and you are so unsympatheic because you were late for work? Geez, this is how far humankind has gone down.

  39. sachalie says:

It is very sad to see how people do not care about life, all they care about is how long thier commute is going to be. These stupid, insensitive comments are disgusting. What are you teaching your children? Had this been a member of your family or your chiild, you would NOT be feeling like this, you don’t even know what really happened, other than someone was killed after the R train approach. My condolences to the man’s family, espeically if he was a father on his way to work as many of us are at that time in the morning. As I say many of times to thoes who are rushing to get to work, or have an issue about your commute-leave earlier or drive your car. PERIOD…

  40. Bell Toller says:

Was the victim drunk or under the inflluence?

    1. Mike says:

      No.

    2. Bill Clinton says:

No, just committing a crime and struck down by the Tunnel God.

  41. floyd bannister says:

    all life is valuable.

    1. Nick Koundouroudas says:

      You are very compassionate.

  42. Rob says:

I am disgusted at the unsympathetic reactions for a fellow human being. How do you know what truly happened to this man? The news only reported a man was struck by a train. That is left open for many possible reasons, of which the news did not report. Maybe he was pushed, mental challenged, or severely depressed. Maybe he accidently slipped, or lost his balance. This man’s life has ended, and everyone reacts selfishly because their life is being inconvenienced for one morning commute? Sad.

    1. Aceof Spades says:

Well thats is how everyone is here. People read this site just to make fun or complain bout something. Unfortunately that is the world we live in. No one cares about anything but them selves.

      1. BOB says:

        damn right!

      2. carlos says:

no, that’s how nature is. you only are supposed to care for you and kin.

      3. Mike says:

        @ carlos

i didnt know we lived in the wild and had to protect our family against the other lions

    2. teresa says:

I am glad that decent human being still exist…..Rob, I am on your side.

  43. Shelby says:

I take the R train into the city every morning. I catch it at the Union Street station which is AFTER the supposed incident. I take the 7:12. Today it came at 7:15. THREE minute delay. NOT a crisis.
    Overreact much??

    1. shelby is TRULY CLUELESS! says:

You hit the nail on the head “shelby is clueless” These New York TRANSPLANTS are nothing more than MORONS that LOVE to drink “EXTRA TALL CAFE LATTE’s” and make everyone around them miserable!

      YUPPIES GO HOME!!!

If it was one of your family members it wouldn’t of been a case of “overreact much??” RIGHT????

  44. B Coty says:

IT was more like 4:50 AM because I was trying to get on the train at bay ridge ave at 5AM…the MTA had a shuttle bus TO 59th St, then nothing! Have a nice walk to 36th Street…till nearly 6AM, still no shuttle buses! Awesome MTA! There were at least 10 emergency vehicles on the scene, but not one bus…

  45. iggy says:

you are an a*sh*le. maybe he was pushed. ever think of that? that would be murder.

    1. DanTe says:

If he was pushed, than he was standing way too close to the edge. Sorry, no sympathy for you wastes of time.

    2. Laura Saiter says:

      dante you’re talking about yourself

  46. Rugbyball says:

Was probably someone standing in yellow area near track edge, had a dizzy, fainting spell, collapsed and rolled into track. If people would just stay off of the yellow they would fall on platform with very little chance of rolling into tracks.
Sympathies to the families, and hope to those that are late you can understand and your bosses as well.

  47. things says:

WOW – Joe & Holy Bananas must really be on top of what’s happening with the MTA at *all* times. Moron?? Exactly how do you know what happened, specifically? Are you very sure that he wasn’t pushed? That there wasn’t something wrong on the platform & he slipped through no fault of his own? Or I don’t know, any other one of a million possibilities that could have happened? Holy I’d hate to have you 2 on a jury… I think it’s clear the MORON is the one who opens his mouth before knowing the facts…someone’s DEAD, jerks.

  48. SAM says:

    OCE,
IF U WANNA TO KILL UR-SELF DO IT DURING OFF PEAK TIME SO SERVICE CAN BE BACK TO NORMAL IN THE AM.
    MAY HE REST IN PEACE!!!!!!!!!

    1. Ally says:

And how exactly do you know what happened?

  49. jay says:

this is crazy there are hundreds of people standing outside on 4th ave in sunset park but the R train suspened in all brooklyn for a death in sunset park? sounds fishy

  50. Steve says:

    Cheese and Rice!
What I want to know is why this stuff jams up the whole system for the next 9 hours? It should take EMS and the Cops 30 minutes at most to scoop up what’s left and get it on the platform. Forget Osama– it’s clear that one dead dude on the tracks can kill the entire NYC rush hour!

    1. jay says:

      exactly its crazy

    2. RichieT says:

If it was a person you knew, that attitude would be totally different. They need to find out exactly what happened. The NYC Subway runs on 600 volts of AC current in the third rail. It’s not like you just walk over and throw a switch. It’s not set-up to just turn off a small section at a time. Would you want to walk around next to a piece of steel with 600 volts running through it? I doubt it. It also depends on the tracks, and where they can switch trains to different tracks to get around it.
