16 Evacuated After Explosion At Mariners Harbor Home

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Firefighters are trying to determine what sparked a pre-dawn blast that rocked a Staten Island neighborhood Tuesday.

Officials say an explosion and raging fire in a home in Mariners Harbor forced the evacuation of 12 people and four others from neighboring buildings at 2:43 a.m.

Part of the building at 3012 Richmond Terrace collapsed. The fire was brought under control around 5 a.m.

One person was taken to Staten Island University Hospital with minor injuries.
