EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ (CBS 2/AP) – Crews have resumed searching for missing boater in New Jersey.
According to police, a person visiting from California took out a canoe on Farrington Lake in East Brunswick Saturday afternoon and never returned.
After the man failed to return by dusk, his cousin called authorities around 7:30pm. Several police officers, firefighters and divers soon began searching the waterway and surrounding area and eventually found the 16-foot canoe but not its oars.
Authorities say the 30-year-old man, whose name and hometown were not immediately disclosed, was in New Jersey to visit his cousin. He was last seen between Route 18 and Ryders Lane in East Brunswick.
The East Brunswick police and fire departments are conducting the search along with the Somerset County dive team and the New Jersey State Police K-9 unit.
The initial search was called off just after midnight.
