Decomposed Body Found On Eastern Long Island Beach

EAST HAMPTON, N.Y. (AP) -- A badly decomposed body has been found on a beach on the eastern end of Long Island.

According to Newsday, authorities say the body was discovered by a beach walker around noon Sunday on a beach in Amagansett.

East Hampton Police Chief Ed Ecker says the body was in a "poor state of decomposition" and was missing some body parts. He did not know the body's gender.

Ecker says he knows of no missing persons cases in the town that could be connected to the body. Suffolk County homicide detectives were investigating, but Ecker says that does not necessarily indicate foul play.

Amagansett beach is about 100 miles east of an area along a highway near Jones Beach where 10 sets of human remains have been found since December.
