Northern NY Man Charged With Stabbing 2 Women

CAPE VINCENT, N.Y. (AP) -- A 20-year-old northern New York man is accused of fatally stabbing a 51-year-old woman and wounding her daughter, who is the mother of his 11-month-old child.

State Police in Watertown say Mikel Odle of Alexandria Bay faces a charge of second-degree murder in the death of Mary Burkman of Cape Vincent and attempted murder in the stabbing of her daughter, 21-year-old Amber Englebert. Both were stabbed in Burkman's home Saturday night shortly before midnight.

Troopers say Odle drove off with Englebert's infant. He crashed his vehicle after a brief police pursuit and State Police took him into custody at a hospital.

Troopers say the infant was airlifted to a Syracuse hospital and is expected to fully recover.

Police didn't know if Odle had a lawyer Sunday.
