Report: Jets Have ‘Legitimate Interest’ In Randy Moss

NEW YORK (WFAN) — The Jets appear to be on the outside of the Plaxico Burress post-jail sweepstakes, though they’re reportedly in the mix for another talented-yet-troubled wide receiver.

The Jets have “legitimate interest in soon-to-be free agent Randy Moss,” according to the New York Daily News’ Manish Mehta.

Conflicting stories on Moss surfaced once already. In April, multiple reports indicated the Jets were “seriously intrigued” by the New England Patriots, Oakland Raiders and Minnesota Vikings castoff. Coach Rex Ryan even touted Moss’ playmaking abilities at the NFL owners’ meetings in March.

Then, days later, Adam Schein of reported that Ryan and the Jets were merely feigning interest “as a way to motivate Jets free agent Santonio Holmes.”

So is this for real? Mehta’s sources say yes, on one condition.

“The Jets will have more than a cursory interest in Moss if Holmes or (Braylon) Edwards doesn’t return.”

Fans might be wary of Moss, but cornerback Antonio Cromartie is ready to play alongside the future Hall of Famer.

“I would love to have Randy Moss on Jets,” the eventual Jets free agent tweeted on Monday. “Much respect great vertical guy who has a lot left in the tank.”

Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum has repeatedly said he would like to bring back all three free agent receivers — Holmes, Edwards and Brad Smith. Of course, nothing can happen until the NFL lockout is lifted.

“As soon as we know what the rules of engagement are,” Tannenbaum said, “we’ll be ready.”

Don’t be a fool – he said the last 13 years. That’s a decent body of work to consider. No point in digging up the ancient past – what’s that got to do with the current time? Hell, even the Patriots have a poor record if you bring in the 1970s as well!

As a team, the Jets may not have appeared in the Superbowl for a long time but three AFC Championship games in 13 years isn’t bad and they’ve made the play offs more than most this millennium.

This was in reponse to the JL comment on May 23 btw

Well since Moss is a loser and the Jets aren’t a winning franchise this makes perfect sense.

The jets aren’t a winning franchise? Compare their winning % to other teams over the last 13 years, and get back to me.

      1. JL says:

I guess you are looking at the winning percentage when the Jets were in the AFL when it was .517 but in the NFL their percentage is .437. Nothing like a Jet fan to make up history.
