Suffolk County Police Make Arrests After Bars Allegedly Serve Alcohol To Minors

HUNTINGTON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) — Police arrested four people and shut down a Long Island bar for allegedly serving alcohol to minors.

Suffolk County police said the arrests occurred at Strawberry’s in Huntington and Rancho Guanaco in Commack.

Two employees of Strawberry’s were charged on Saturday with unlawfully selling alcohol to a minor. Authorities also closed the business after finding fire code violations.

The owner of Rancho Guanaco was charged with endangering the welfare of a child. He was also slapped with summonses for violating the state Alcohol Beverage Control Act. An underage employee at the bar was charged with unlawfully selling alcohol to a minor.

It was not immediately clear if any of the defendants had lawyers.

While admire the efforts in Suffock County, I have to wonder why it is alright for bars and clubs in New York City and Los Angeles to continue to serve underage celebritis with no punishment. We have all seen photos of Britney and Lindsey trashed, but nothing was done to the club owners that knowingly served them. Is it only the everyday normal people that have to follow the rules?

It shouldn’t be long for some candidate to propose lowering the age limit to 20 or even 18 as a JOBS stimulus bill.

The bar business is very very slow, and we could employ maybe hundreds of thousands of people by lowering the drinking age.
