Police Step Up Hunt For Pattern Robbery Suspect In Manhattan
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – He’s still at it.
Police say the suspect previously sought in four attempted and one successful robberies in Manhattan is continuing his poorly-disguised string of robberies.
His M.O. is the same each time: he walks into a business, covering his face with one hand and sticking the other under his jacket or shirt making it appear he is gripping a gun. He then approaches the counter and demands cash.
He had tried to rob a Starbucks, Cosi and two Duane Reade Stores. All those efforts left him with nothing.
He was able to rip off a CVS at 320 5th Avenue on May 8. A few hours later he tried the same routine at Duane Reade, but got away with nothing.
Now police think the same suspect is behind several more incidents this weekend.
On Saturday evening, they believe he tried to rob the Mrs. Field’s Cookie Store at 1293 Broadway. Less than two hours later, he tried to rob a Duane Reade on 7th Avenue. Police have released the surveillance video below of that attempt.
On Sunday night, he apparently robbed a coffee shop on 49th street.
On Monday, he’s suspected of presenting a note to a teller at a Chase Bank. He took off after being given an undisclosed amount of cash.
The suspect is described as a white male, between 35-45 years old, approximately 5’7″ and 200 pounds. Police are asking anyone with any information on any of these incidents to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). You can also submit tips on the Crime Stoppers website or by texting 274637 (CRIMES) and enter TIP577.
