NEWARK, N.J. (AP) – Newark police are investigating the shooting death of a 24-year-old killed in an early morning shooting in the city’s North Ward.

Police Det. Josephine Santaniello says the man’s body was discovered around 2 a.m. following reports of a shooting on Highland Avenue.

Santaniello says he was taken to Clara Maass Medical Center in Belleville with a gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police are continuing to investigate and have not released the man’s name. No arrests have been made.

The shooting comes days after another shooting that killed an off-duty Newark police officer and wounded two other people at a fast-food restaurant.
