NYC Robbery Suspect Stable After Being Shot In Leg By Cop

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A New York City police officer shot a suspected robber in the leg after a witness said the man had a gun.

Police said a witness told them he was approached by a man who appeared to have a gun on a Brooklyn street Tuesday. When officers located the suspect, Andrew Raphael, they told him to stop.

Raphael reached into his pants and the witness said he heard the officer tell Raphael to get down. Police say the officer fired one shot, wounding Raphael in the leg. He's hospitalized in stable condition.

Police said doctors found rocks of crack cocaine in his body cavity.

No weapon was recovered. It wasn't clear if Raphael had a lawyer. There was no listed phone number.
