Federal Officials Talking Indian Point Safety Tonight

BUCHANAN, NY (WCBS 880) - On Thursday night, officials from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission will break it all down for the public - general safety at Indian Point and how the nuclear power plant performed in 2010.

The NRC's Neil Sheehan said they will concentrate on the end of the year during the normal band of oversight and also talk about the plant in the light of the disaster in Japan.

"We made a conscious decision to try and include an update on where our reviews stand," he says.

Sheehan says they do this every year and encourage people to come.

"It's hopefully a good opportunity to foster some better understanding about the kind of oversight that we're providing," he says.

The meeting is being held at the Colonial Terrace catering facility at 119 Oregon Road in Cortlandt Manor. The assessment meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. and the staff will be available to answer questions starting at 5:15 p.m.
