NYC Limo Driver Pleads Guilty To Raping Law Student

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A New York City limousine driver has admitted raping a law student more than a decade ago, then trying to have her killed after his arrest.

Rajeev Kumar said nothing except "yes" to a judge's questions as he pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges including rape and conspiracy. The 31-year-old is expected to get a 15-to-21-year prison sentence.

The August 2000 rape case stalled until he pleaded guilty last year to torching a car in an unrelated case. He got probation, but his DNA was entered in a law enforcement database after the arson plea and matched a sample from the sex assault.

Authorities said while Kumar was jailed last September, he talked about wanting his victim killed and offered to pay an undercover officer posing as a hit man.

What's the appropriate punishment in this case? Sound off in our comments section below…
