$100,000 Reward Being Offered As Search Continues For Lauren Spierer

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) – Parents, family, volunteers and friends say they have scoured every inch of the downtown Bloomington, Indiana area where 20-year-old Westchester native Lauren Spierer was last seen.

They plan on expanding their search Thursday. Bloomingdale Police Lt. Bill Parker Parker said divers would return to nearby Lake Monroe after a search Wednesday turned up nothing.

Police say the missing Indiana University student wasn’t involved in any altercations before she disappeared.

But Parker won’t discuss reports that a male friend with Spierer was in a fight with other men a couple hours earlier.

Spierer, who is from Edgemont, disappeared early Friday. She was last seen by her friends at 4:30 a.m. after a night of drinking.

“We will be working and doing whatever we have to do to find Lauren and bring her home,” her father Robert Spierer said Wednesday.

Bloomington police said Tuesday foul play could be involved in her disappearance.

So far there are no leads and no suspects in the disappearance.

Jim Irsay, the owner of the Indianapolis Colts, is offering a $10,000 reward for information that helps locate Spierer. Television host Ryan Seacrest Tweeted a photo of Spierer and asked fans to help locate her. Other celebrities including Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Vivica Fox also Tweeted asking for help locating her.

Robert Spierer says a $100,000 reward is also being offered for information leading to her return.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children is also assisting the police in the search.

The girls from LI where found already and unfortunately are dead. They actually need to catch the killer. But this one is missing, and there still might be some hope to find her alive. That is why.

INDIANA UNIVERSITY HAS BEEN IN THE NEWS (ALL BAD) 2 TIMES IN THE LAST FEW WEEKS; RAPE AND NOW THIS TRADGEDY. SEEMS VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN IS ALIVE ON THIS CAMPUS; WONDER WHY SO MANY PEOPLE WANT TO BLAME VICTIMS AND NEED TO KNOW IF ALCOHOL WAS INVOLVED? IT IS THE UNIVERSITY ADMINISTRATORS BEST FREIND AND CAMPUS POLICE USE CONDITION AS A REASON NOT TO PURSUE CHARGES AGAINST MEN FOR RAPING COLLEGE WOMEN. I HOPE lAUREN WILL BE FOUND AND SOON; BUT THE FREE PASS MEN WHO ASSAULT WOMEN AT INDIANA UNIVERSITY HAVE BEEN GRANTED FOR TOO LONG IS A BIG FACTOR IN THE ESCALATING VIOLENCE WE NOW SEE IN THIS TRAGIC CASE!!!

Ricardo, you are an Idiot for making this a race issue. What is wrong with people caring and doing everything possible to get her back. The forgotten ones is a purely social issue, not a race issue. They are forgotten because nobody cared for them. Get spelling lessons, because if you live in this country, you should be able to speak and write its language properly!!

I really hope that alcohol didn’t play a part in her disappearance. Of course we want this girl to be found alive and well, but if she was so drunk that she didn’t know what she was doing……….please, young girls, young people, stop drinking in excess. Please.

  6. Gregg says:

We live in such a sick/violent society today that you have to be defensive and always aware of your surroundings especially in the sticks where this young lady disappeared. Sad, I hope somehow she comes back safe .

  7. Nick Cobb says:

I believe this along with many other offenses that have taken place in or outside bars in the wee hours of the morning, warrant laws requiring cameras inside and outside these establishments. If felons wish to gather there, then be recorded!
