NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Congressman Anthony Weiner’s pregnant wife Huma Abedin returned to their Washington, DC home early Wednesday. Abedin had been traveling overseas with her boss Secretary of State Hillary Clinton since the disgraced congressman’s Twitter scandal broke. The question is now: does her return mean the defiant House member’s resignation may be imminent?

On Tuesday, fellow Democrat Rep. Carolyn McCarthy suggested as much.

“It’s been what two weeks. It’s been a very long two weeks,” said McCarthy. “Hopefully, we are hearing he might resign in a couple of days.”

The congressman’s colleagues on Capitol Hill want him to leave after his embarrassing sexting scandal.

“I think we should send a strong message to him that he should resign,” said Rep. Sandy Levin (D-Michigan).

“Our caucus understands our concern for the rights of the individual member but our higher responsibility is to our country to uphold a high ethical standard in the Congress of the United States,” said House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif).

House Speaker John Boehner was the latest to weigh in on the sexting scandal, saying he should step down.

CBS News reported that Weiner has told friends he would make no decision until he spoke with his wife. Weiner was officially on a two week leave of absence, getting professional treatment, according to his office.

President Obama has already suggested Weiner should resign, but some say there may be more he can do to influence the decision.

“Maybe the White House helps him get a job, with no fingerprints, so he can go on making a living, which is what he needs to do as well,” said political consultant Hank Sheinkopf.

Will Weiner resign? Should he? Sound off in our comments section below…

Can anyone point to a single foreign policy success that Mrs. Clinton has achieved after flying millions of miles all over the globe the last 3 years? Waste of money!

we are definitely living in “bazarro world” these days. the fact that there is even a question or a doubt that rep. weiner should have been removed (or removed himself) immediately is a very, very, very sad commentary on all involved…that (of course) includes weiner himself, the democratic party and all (and i mean absolutely all of the–beyond hypocritcal–radical left-wing mainstream media). you people are completely nuts.

    WHAT A FREAKIN’ DISGRACE.

how absolutely disgusting it has been to listen to these various liberal freaks making the excuse such as 1) he REALLY didn’t breeak any laws, 2) it’s simply a matter between him and his wife, 3) it’s simply a matter between him and his ‘constituents’, or 4) the liberals making the argument–well, this republican did something far worse (what are you all…in kindergarten?) No, no,no…WE ARE PAYING THIS GUY–HE WORKS FOR US! NOTHING BUT SAD, PITIFUL EXCUSES FOR BOTH weiner AND HIS SAD, MISINFORMED, MISGUIDED, FREAKISH, UNMORAL/AMORAL, LOW-LIFE CONSTITUENTS AND THE DIGUSTING RADICAL LEFT-WING MEDIA AND OTHERWISE THAT SUPPORTS THIS FREAK.

and…as a side note…is it not incredulous that women’s groups would actually SUPPORT this freak?? where were these same womens’ groups when sarah palin was being politically ‘raped’ by the demonic mainstream media??? where were they…you liberal freaks???

2012 can’t come soon enough! time to remove the utter TRASH that is LIBERALISM and return to GOD & COUNTRY.

    • IgnoranteElephante

Well said, but, unfortunately, for 2012 to mean, anything the public needs to be educated that the government serves us at our will, and not the other way around. Too many people complain, but bury their head in the sand come election day. They have been brain washed by the liberal media and liberal education system that they shouldn’t expect more from their government. They are told that the answer to their problems are more laws that regulate the way they live. No one seems to see that with each bicycle lane and pedestrian plaza, with each ban on an “unsafe beverage,” with each legislative mandate to redefine history, our rights are being eviscerated before our eyes.

    • Crystal

Oh, so you like to see more of what just happened in Wisconsin then?

      • IgnoranteElephante

I don’t know what you are talking about and I suspect you don’t either.

  • Kate

“Maybe the W/H could help him GET A JOB”????? The W/H had better START worrying about the jobs of all Americans. Crony governance is repugnant and Democrats are up to their necks in it. Enough already!

  • Vince

I really don’t care what Huma thinks. She’s a lapdog for Hillary and she married a pervert, so she can’t be wrapped too tight to begin with.

  • Kenny West

Weiner’s looks fabulous in panyhose and bra in the newly released photos, although his choice of a white bra with black pantyhose might lead you to doubt his color consciousness. A little lacey black plunge bra would have set the look off smartly.

  • neighbor over the fence

shhhh , everyone quiet down- else she’s going to know !

    • Hot Dog

      LOL!!!

      And it’s ‘Mrs. Weiner’, everybody…

  • Frank Hunt

Imagine if they found in Sarah Palin’s 24,000 emails that she had been showing her goods

    • geno

      BRAVO !! :) )

    • Daisy

The Left would do an about face and admire her. As it is, they abhor Sarah Palin for her decency.

  • Zeke

The girls are back in town after having so much fun together. Why would Huma and Hillary care what their men are doing?

  • Hank Warren

Lewd politicians, yet another violation of our rights. Add it to the list of gov’t violations of our rights:
They violate the 1st Amendment by placing protesters in cages, banning books like “America Deceived II” and censoring the internet.
They violate the 2nd Amendment by confiscating guns.
They violate the 4th and 5th Amendment by molesting airline passengers.
They violate the entire Constitution by starting undeclared wars for foreign countries.
Impeach Obama, vote for Ron Paul.

As a wife and mother of three college aged ladies, I just have to laugh at the Democratic hypocrisy. They want Weiner to resign over sending photos to women and yet President Clinton was getting B-Jobs in the White House from low level staff. We didn’t hear Democrats calling for his resignation. They are all Idiots.

    • Daisy

That, and he’s a rapist. But hey, why let all that get in the way of the ‘important business of running the country’ (into the ground is the only part the “Liberals’ left out of that sentence).

  • Robertok

One, who would name their kid ‘Huma’? This is America, so name your kids American names! Or, if you migrate here with a messed up name, change it! Anyway, Anthony Weiner being in so called ‘sex therapy’ is a JOKE! Men, unless they are rapist, or some other perverted thing, don’t need sex therapy. Men are coursing with testosterone and men are men. Get over it, Liberals.

    • Crystal

Are you seriously worried about someones name? Really?

      • Daisy

Pretty pathetic about the names – and – guess what? Weiner IS a pervert.

Technically, he’s a male, but this woman in no way shape or form, considers him a man.

  • Dare Taiwo

A suggestion to CBS: To prevent some dysfunctional People from using other People’s name to post lewd comments, CBS should endeavor to put a control measure in place where all commentators would register before they can post.

I have been a victim of one commentator who used name “The KNOWLEDGEABLE ONE” to post.

All posts with my name in Capital above are not my posts and I dissociate myself from such asinine comments.

Any other post that comes after this is hereby disclaimed by me.

Welcome to the world of technology and lack of privacy. Just be thankful you aren’t Sarah Palin having all your e-mails examined by the press. Is she a politician? I thought she was a private citizen? Have to ask Eric “I see no problem with voter intimidation” Holder about that one.

    • Dare Taiwo

I also would like to confess to having given Anthony Weiner a hand job back in the nineties. Those pictures just don’t do him justice.

    • DARE TIAWO

you take yourself way too seriously

    • IgnoranteElephante

      Dare,

Your name, I presume, is a nom de plume just like everybody else. Who the he!! cares if you were the victim? Maybe the KNOWLEDGEABLE ONE that “victimized” you was not the real KNOWLEDGEABLE ONE or maybe it wasn’t him at all. Thus, you may be victimizing him.

Put on your big boy draws and take it like a man without resorting to calls for prior restraint, censorship, and the destruction of one of the last remaining bastions of anonymity and privacy.

  • Robert Marvin Smith

    Weiner twitted his tweeter.

Wahat is Missum Huma Weiner twitting?

Missum Huma Weiner tweetering her tongue to her Weiner twit.

    Tweeters tawhat Weiner toudn’t twit.

  • RD Brinkley

Congressman Anthony Weiner, after days of denying he sent lewd pictures of himself over Twitter, after days of being unable to deny that the underwear and underlying bulge might have been a picture he took of himself, finally arrived at the realization that no one believed him and confessed.

Yes, the lewd pictures were of him. Yes he sent them to female acquaintances. Yes, he had been engaged in this activity for years. He apologized for engaging in lewd activity. He apologized for sending lewd pictures to at least six women. He apologized for lying. He even apologized to Andrew Breithart, who broke the story.

Despite this “hugely regrettable” ethical lapse, Congressman Weiner said he will not resign his House seat because he did not break any House rules. What? Does the House of Representatives have a rule requiring that a members”shall conduct himself at all times in a manner that shall reflect creditably on the House.” Oops!

Ethics is not about rhetoric. Ethics is about doing what is right. Ethics is about action. Congressman Weiner cannot claim himself an ethical failure personally then separate his personal and professional lives. They are inseparable. Otherwise , Congressman Weiner may claim a moral equivalency with Mother Theresa.
“Nothing about this should reflect in any way on my official duties or oath of office,” said Congressman Weiner. “I engaged in inappropriate online conversations. … I don’t believe I did anything that violates any law or rule.” What about right from wrong, Congressman Weiner?
Congressman Weiner’s lewd activity was ethically wrong. His attempted cover-up was ethically wrong. His claims of his Twitter account being hacked were lies, hence ethically wrong. Deception and lying are morally wrong. Character counts Congressman Weiner.

Your unethical behavior reflects badly not only on yourself but also the House of Representatives. Do not bring any more shame on the House of Representatives. Resign now. Your resignation is in the best interests of Congress, the United States Government, and, more importantly, the People of the United States.

Lily Tomlin was said, “The problem with the rat race is that even if you win, you’re still a rat.” Congressman Weiner, you cannot separate your professional from your personal life. If you try, you’re still a rat.

Maybe with the $ you are making from the site traffic on this story CBS, you could hire a moderator and fix this cesspool of a site.

I love it when someone who names themselves after a Nazi proves me right. Thanks Mr. G.

    • Doctor Mengele

Nathan, what’s wrong with Nazi doctors? What’s the matter? You afraid of a little free discourse. You are crying for censorship simply because yolu disagree with the content.

  • Dominick Kielbasa

Huma needs to leave Weiner. He’s a louche d0uche. She’d be much better off with my high quality, nurturing Kielbasa, chock-full of integrity and moral fiber.

  • Dare Taiwo

    THE KNOWLEDGABLE (sic) ONE,

It is apparent you are mentally unfit to comment, without a psychiatrist, on a blog like this.

Using my name and Steve’s to post the comments below show you need a lot of help in the Sanity Department.

  • Gregory

Let this sad, sick person work out his problems. The hand writing is on the wall. Above all he deserves to be treated as a human being. For the Democrats, just refer back to how Bill Clinton, Barney Frank, etc were treated.

  • Mia

He needs to resign. I am a constituient, and if the Democrats can’t get him to resign, I will vote Republican straight down the line in the next election, and will urge my friends and family to do likewise. He is a sick man, and in no mental state to help run this country during a critical time in this country’s history. He is not only exchanging questionable messages with grown women, he is trading inappropriate messages with minors. His explanation that he could not tell what age the females were did not fly with anyone I know in this district. I find it interesting that the media for the most part has not reported on the exact content of the messages as one media outlet did — unchallenged. I just saw a film clip of his wife returning from her trip. She looks somber — not like someone who thinks what her husband is doing is okay as he claims. Yes, he is a liar of the worst kind, and he is willingly dragging his wife and his child down the tubes with him. Disgusting!

    • Michael H.

Mia, don’t cut off your nose to spite your face. Write in yourself as a candidate if you don’t want to vote for Weiner in the next election. That’s what I’ll be doing, instead of voting Republican.

      • Gene

Are you ACTUALLY saying this disgusting perv should still be in office?

My God, look how low we have sunk!

      • Michael H.

        Gene,

I have repeatedly stated that Weiner should step down and that I would NOT vote for him in the upcoming election. However, that does not mean I will vote for a Republican. I will do a write in vote for myself in protest of Weiner.

Where did I state that I would support Weiner remaining in office. That’s right, I didn’t, and stated just the opposite. Learn how to read, Gene.

      • EllieEnlightened

That’s it just vote party lines. No bother or intellegience involved. THen one day you will wake up with nothing and no rights and say “Hey what happened”.

      • HRC

I’d rather vote for a republican

    • James

You sound a little nut’s yourself Mia to be perfectly honest.

      • Mia

I see that Weiner’s well-paid support machine is out in full force…..

      • Gene

You are the ones supporting a US Congressman who posts pornographic pictures of himself, shares foul-mouth messages with children, and has photos taken of him in drag, and you call Mia “nuts” for being repulsed by it?!?

Lord Almighty, what have we sunk to?

  • Dare Taiwo

I wanted to post a comment until I saw this annoying reply. It appears the blog doesn’t have a Moderator. I’m out of here.

  • Steve

Did anybody check YOU into a mental asylum?

  • Jets Fan

Weiner is la lying lewd and lascivious jerk. We all know sex offenders can’t be rehabilitated, but this jerk takes a 2 week leave of absence to expecting everyone to forgive his transgressions. He suffers as much from extreme hubris as sexual dementia. If he stays, Congress is nothing but a bunch of complicit jerks as well.

    • Michael H.

Sex offender? That’s a little harsh, don’t you think? Weiner hasn’t committed any crime, and the main reason many of his constituents want him out is because he lied about the whole thing.

  • Jack McHugh

Maybe the White House helps him get a job, with no fingerprints, so he can go on making a living, which is what he needs to do as well,” said political consultant Hank Sheinkopf. – He will still get his pension so who cares? If this was you or I, we would be fired and that would be that. I’m sure CNN or MSNBC would hire him, they take in psychotic liberals.

  • Michael Santomauro

Rep. Anthony Weiner’s completely non-measured, non-conciliatory remarks on the Israeli attack on the humanitarian aid flotilla are proof that he’d rather be a successful New York politician than a prominent national liberal … Will the liberals who only know Weiner from his feisty MSNBC appearances and his staunch support of the president’s domestic initiatives be put off when they hear him taking the “Israel can do no wrong” side in the debate over Israel’s botched raid, in international waters, of a humanitarian aid flotilla? … “Even if we are the only country on earth that sees the facts here,” Weiner says, “the United States should stand up for Israel.” That’s the statement of a man with whom there can be no reasoning.

    Peace.

This poor jerk is a prime example of why we should look the other way when people step into a mess. We are quick to condem, we are quick to quote, ie, “According to….” and we do not realize that the guy on the top has the same mental problems as the guy on the bottom. His action is a comfort to me because now I am aware that I am not as weird as I and others believe I am.
