NEW YORK (WFAN/AP) — The Yankees-Red Sox rivalry has moved into neutral ground.

According to an annual Quinnipiac poll, there are more Yankees fans in Connecticut than members of Red Sox nation.

Forty-three percent of baseball fans surveyed in the poll, which has an error margin of 2.6 percentage points, support the Yankees. Thirty-eight percent said they are fans of the Sox.

Another 7 percent said they prefer the Mets.

Men across the state root, root, root for the Yankees, 47 to 35 percent. Women favor Boston, 42 to 39 percent.

The poll was conducted by telephone between June 8 and June 13.

Poll director Doug Schwartz says support for the teams has fluctuated since the survey began in 2003. That year, the Yankees led by 14 points. The Red Sox had a statistically insignificant 1 point lead in 2008, the only year the Yankees did not lead.

Quinnipiac University will also become home for the son of a Yankees legend this fall.

“My parents were supporting me 100 percent; they want me to go here,” Mariano Rivera Jr. said in April, according to the Quinnipiac Chronicle. “I have to prove to them that I’m ready for college and I’m on my own basically.”
