Jets' Rex Ryan Focusing On Holmes, Edwards; Not Burress, Moss

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Rex Ryan knows Plaxico Burress and Randy Moss are out there, but his main concern lies with the Jets' free agents -- for now.

"We would love to have all our players back," Ryan told the New York Daily News before a book signing on Thursday.

When asked about Plaxico Burress, Ryan replied, "We want to sign as many of our own players as we possibly can get."

Santonio Holmes, Braylon Edwards and Brad Smith are all slated to become free agent wide receivers once the NFL's labor situation is resolved. Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum went on record in January, saying he'd like to re-sign all three.

"Of course they are appealing," Burress said of the Jets in a television interview on Monday. "Ever since I came to New York, the fans have embraced me. It is a great city and a great town. It will always be a special place to me regardless of what happens."

Burress even sounded Rex-ian when discussing the thought of helping Gang Green to a Super Bowl win.

"I am not going to sit here and front. For me to go to one side to the other side and win a championship in the same (city), how many people have done that?" Burress said. "Do I have the capability to lead a team to a championship? Without question."

Ryan wasn't surprised by Burress' comments.

"When I came here I talked about how I wanted every coach in the league to want to come coach for the Jets," he said, "and wanted every player to want to play for the Jets."

Ryan responded to a question about "guys with off-the-field baggage," referring to Burress and Moss. He didn't endorse the embattled receivers, but he didn't slam the door shut, either.

"In every single locker room, nobody's perfect," Ryan said. "Everybody's made mistakes and I've made more than my share."
