What’s Next For Anthony Weiner?

Job Offers, A Future In Politics And Saving His Marriage

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Now that embattled Anthony Weiner has resigned, many are wondering what’s next for the former congressman?

Weiner might have a future career in television.

The Hollywood Reporter says Weiner has been offered a cameo on the HBO series “Entourage” playing himself on the show.

The show’s executive producer Doug Ellin reportedly reached out to Weiner before his resignation on Thursday about appearing on the show this summer.

So far, Weiner hasn’t responded to Ellin, but maybe that’s because he’s considering a job offer from Hustler Magazine publisher Larry Flynt.

In a letter to The Huffington Post, Flynt offers says to Weiner “I would like to make you an offer of employment at Flynt Management Group, LLC in our Internet group.”

Flynt says he wants Weiner for his politics, not his Twitter pics, asking Weiner to become a political contributor for the magazine.

Not only is he serious about giving the former lawmaker a job, but Flynt says he’ll offer him a 20 percent raise from what he was making in congress plus benefits.

Flynt goes on to say “While this employment opportunity is being offered in large part due to your qualifications and clear passion for making a change, I feel that your unfortunate resignation is a prime example of unfounded political pressure and the hypocrisy that has invaded democracy in Washington D.C.”

Job offers aside, what is most likely in Weiner’s future is some sort of work in politics.

During his resignation speech on Thursday, he said, “I will be looking for other ways to contribute my talents, to make sure that we live up to that most of New York and American ideals.”

Election records show Weiner has more than $365,000 for a congressional re-election campaign and another $4.5 million reserved for a prospective campaign to become New York City mayor. But that money comes with limitations.

“Well, he can’t take it with him and go to Disneyland. It’s not, he’s not able to convert it to personal use,” said Ken Gross, campaign finance expert.

So it’s hard to say what Weiner will be doing next politically, but when it comes to his personal life, he has a lot to do.

Weiner said he wouldn’t be making the decision to resign alone, but he stood solo as he announced his resignation.

“I make this apology to my neighbors and my constituents, but I make it particularly to my wife Huma,” he said during his resignation speech Thursday.

His wife of just 11 months, Huma Abedin now pregnant with their first child, was seen with her husband outside their Forest Hills apartment but she did not stand by her man as he explained his way out of office.

“Most importantly, my wife can continue to heal from the damage I’ve caused,” Weiner said.

Those following the unraveling of a political career could only imagine the conversations between Weiner and his wife, wondering if their marriage was unraveling as well.

“I would imagine there was a lot of tears on both sides,” said relationship therapist Irina Firstein. “I would imagine some screaming, some how and why and what.”

Firstein says the newly wed couple has yet to build the firm foundation of a solid marriage. Their road to recovery will be rocky.

“Couples do heal. Sometimes these kinds of things open channels of communication that didn’t exist before,” said Firstein. “But he’s going to need therapy. they’re going to need therapy.”

Political allies have turned their backs on the disgraced congressman and now he must do everything he can so his wife doesn’t do the same.

New York Rep. Steve Israel said he advised Weiner that his resignation was best for him, his family and the country.

The couple reportedly headed to the Hamptons after Weiner resigned on Thursday.

  1. Moon Them says:

He should be exiled to the Moon since nobody wants to see his Weiner anywhere on planet Earth.

  2. Therese Defarge says:

Run for his vacated seat in Congress and let his former constituents decide if they want him to represent them or not.

This is a powerful advocate for the good. He shouldn’t be taken out for personal conduct that did not rise to the level of criminality, gave offense only to those NOT involved, and whose right to privacy was grievously violated.

Americans don’t handle issues involving sexuality with any degree of maturity.

    1. Tadeusz Po Polsku says:

We can be like the French and entitle ourselves to sex on demand with or without consent.

    2. Bye Bye Anthony says:

And leftists don’t seem to grasp the concept that people who are unfaithful, indiscriminate, deceptive and reckless in their personal lives are typically the same way in their professional lives.

  3. nathan says:

CBS enough. WIlliam Paley would be ashamed. How about some real news?

  4. Scott says:

He should just spend time with his wife making sure they are both ok and just move past this whole thing. It is definitely possible for them to have a much stronger and overall lasting relationship. Then, when all is cool on the home front, then think about what to do next. That’s all. And while doing that, try to to loose his faith and outlook on people after seeing just how ugly people really are judging someone else for, in my view, a very forgivable series in lack of judgement.

    1. Marina Ios says:

i doubt it that they can spend quality time together and be ok, considering the loss of a substantial income source- his salary- , unfortunatelly, quality time involves spending some money- its a sort of therapy

  5. Vinnie from Queens says:

Has CNN called yet? That seems to be the next career stop for disgraced political perverts.

  6. IgnoranteElephante says:

Does anyone remember when this shylock wanted them to ban a statute in Queens because he thought it was offensive to women? Here’s the story from CBS: http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2011/02/25/rep-anthony-weiner-wants-sexist-queens-statue-removed/

    What arrogance and hypocrisy!

At Madame Tussoud in Vienna, Austria, the greeter at the entrance is Arnold Schwanzenschlecker. How about Weiner can replace him with his Original Wiener?

  8. lydia says:

He might start by volunteering to do free public service as he reflects on his awful choices that probably wrecked his new marriage. This guy needs a stroing dose of humility. He needs a complete rebuild of character.

why is it even of a concern what is next for him?
as for mrs weiner….i feel sorry for you, but sometimes bad things happen in life involving innocent “bystanders”
as for worries about the financial matters, you are not alone….i personally am seriously ill, unemployable, still not qualifying for retirement, with zero income, etc etc, and i am surviving….after all, we are survivors, its true that certain scenarios will definitely change, i got used with conditions of living i have never had in my life before

  16. Deemee says:

Im pretty sure this woman only married this ugly duckling because of his political potential and now not having that I wonder how long she will stick around now that the wiener is roasted

    1. Scott says:

for his political potential? she is a pretty high up political figure as well, especially for her age – being a top aide to clinton… so i don’t think it is due to that

  17. Jack Mason says:

    Who cares…….???

  18. Mike says:

He might start by volunteering to do free public service as he reflects on his awful choices that probably wrecked his new marriage. This guy needs a stroing dose of humility. He needs a complete rebuild of character.

  19. Bill Schmalfeldt says:

You can only flog a Weiner for so long until it starts to chafe!
