"I'm a New Yorker. I live here for a long time. I know this, it could happen anywhere, but in my neighborhood? Next door? No," he said.

Another resident said it was the last thing she expected to hear about on the quiet street.

"In the afternoon yesterday, I see that little guy was playing with people in the next house. But today, [I was] really, really surprised what happened," she said.

The little girl was not hurt, but was taken to the hospital for observation.

Police were only able to get a vague description of the suspect. They went door to door asking neighbors if they had seen anything, but many were still asleep at the time of the incident.

The investigation is  ongoing and no arrests have been made.
