David Wright Gets 'Green Light' From Mets To Resume Workouts
NEW YORK (WFAN/AP) -- Injured Mets third baseman David Wright has been cleared to resume workouts and could rejoin the team in three weeks.
"Right now I anticipate it's going to be at least a couple of weeks, maybe three weeks, because he's going to have to exercise, progress to full baseball activity" Mets general manager said on Thursday. "But it's good news from the standpoint that he has been given the green light."
Alderson added it will take about a week for Wright to get in shape to swing a bat. Alderson spoke after New York's 4-1 win over Oakland.
The All-Star has been out since May 16 because of a stress fracture in his lower back. He will travel Friday to the Mets' spring-training complex in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
"With all the blows we've taken ... this is finally a positive," manager Terry Collins said. "It's really big news for us."
Wright is hitting .226 with six home runs and 18 RBIs this season.
