Beyoncé Makes Surprise Visit, Gives Dancing Lessons To Harlem Youth Groups

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A group of local kids got the dance lesson of a lifetime on Monday after a surprise visit from superstar singer Beyoncé.

More than 150 children from local youth groups were excited just to learn some new moves from Beyoncé's dancers at a community event at Target in Harlem, but then Beyonce herself showed up on-stage.

The kids loved it and, efter a big group hug, they kept on dancing for the woman they'd been dreaming of meeting.

"It was amazing. I didn't even know she was behind me," 15-year-old Symone Huggins said. "I turned and was like 'oh my God!'"

"She makes me dance, and she makes me feel like having a playdate with her," Milan Perdomo, 5, said.

The 29-year-old superstar pulled a similar surprise last month on students at P.S. 161 in Harlem. So what sets her apart?

"She's nice, she's a good dancer – it's a lot," 7-year-old Josiah Murray said.

"She's so nice and she has great music and everything, and that's why I just want to be like her when I grow up so bad," Jordyn Smith, 7, said.

Beyoncé has already earned 16 Grammy awards and topped the Forbes list of the most powerful and influential musicians in the world, and all before the age of 30.

Some of her youngest fans were so overwhelmed on Thursday that they were brought to tears by the woman who's inspired them for years.

"She just inspired me now to follow my dreams and do what really makes me happy in my heart," Huggins said.

For so many of her fans, that means reaching high and dancing with all your heart.

Beyoncé's visit was supposed to be a surprise, but rumors got out hours before – so the crowd of 150 swelled to several hundred.
