Deserved is a little harsh, no? If they are illegal what he deserved was to have them confiscated and/or issued a fine/summons or arrest.

When you cheat on your taxes I don’t say you DESERVE to get gangrene from a paper-cut but rather that Uncle Sam finds out and puts your butt behind bars.

  2. Janet Rosenthal says:

These are not the kind of small mortars and sparklers that regular people buy in Pennsylvania. The police need to track down where these commercial “professional” grade fireworks are coming from and arrest the perpetrators.

I wish this man a speedy recovery from his horrible accident.

    1. KPMc says:

Those fireworks ARE available in PA. Right over the border. One of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever encountered. They can’t sell the fireworks to PA residents but can sell them to out-of-staters even though those people can’t legally transport them across state lines or set them off in PA. Absolutely ridiculous!

  3. Cosgrove says:

Illegal fireworks were going off all over Little Neck Queens and really huge ones in front of a home on a hill on Morenci Lane. We called the police and got an answering machine!! It seems fireworks are only confisicated in “some” neighborhoods!!

    1. KPMc says:

Go to your next community meeting and bring it up. They can only get away with what we let them get away with.

  4. Virginia says:

A sad and tragic example of why these kinds of fireworks are illegal, and best left to the trained professionals. God bless Mr. Abel and his family…

  5. Mark says:

So was this his own fireworks he was setting off?
