Conn. Cops: Man Walks Into Woman's Home, Stands Over Bed, Asks To Use Bathroom

SOUTH WINDSOR, Conn. (CBSNewYork) -- Here's one you don't hear about every day.

There were frightening moments on Wednesday for a Connecticut woman who woke up in the middle of the night to find a man standing by her bed.

Police said the alleged intruder had an odd request. He wanted to use the bathroom, reports CBS 2's Jill Konopka.

"I was scared. I was very frightened!" said the woman, who asked not to be identified.

The terrified victim called 36-year-old Heath Cain an uninvited intruder. South Windsor Police said Cain walked right into her Homestead Drive house.

"I was sleeping in my bed and I was awoken. And I turned and there was a man standing at the side of my bed," the woman said.

Cain told her he had to go to the bathroom.

"He took the towel out of my bathroom and was wiping down the doorknobs in the upstairs saying that there was DNA on them and he had to get rid of it,'" she said.

And the 15 minutes she said it took to coerce Cain to leave felt like an eternity.

"He did finally, after a lot of convincing. I was talking to him, saying please leave, please leave, just leave," the woman said.

A police K-9 tracked Cain's scent from the victim's home. Officers found him about a quarter of a mile away on Clearview Drive. Ironically, that location is right around the corner from his home Norton Lane.

Nobody was home to explain Cain's side of the story, but he told officers in a statement: "He had no bad intentions other than needing to use the bathroom and get a glass of water."

Police suspect Cain also bothered others in the area. Officers said they tried unsuccessfully to help Manchester police locate him hours earlier on an unrelated matter.

"About 10:30 we did get a call from a resident on Evans Crossing who was reported a male knocking at door stating that he was handcuffed and he needed a ride to his house," Lt. Richard Riggs said.

Police said Cain didn't physically threaten or harm the woman, but he did defecate on her front walkway. He has been ordered to stay away from her.
