NJ Mom Scraps Try For 127-Mile Ocean Coastline Paddle Attempt

BARNEGAT LIGHT, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Rough seas have forced a Burlington County mom to scrap an attempt to paddle the length of New Jersey's 127-mile coastline to raise money for childhood cancer research.

Margo Pellegrino, of Medford Lakes, ended her attempt Tuesday afternoon near Barnegat Light due to rough conditions.

"At best we would have been a Coast Guard rescue, and at worst we would have been dead," Pellegrino said.

She was using a stand-up paddleboard, which resembles a large surfboard powered by a long-handled paddle.

Pellegrino figures she raised about $2,300 for cancer research, but hopes to get more by raffling off the board.

She said she would try again at some point. She was doing it to help a friend whose child has cancer.
