The judge said he would sentence Sachs to 14 years in prison on Sept. 8.

Police said Sachs had been stalking potential young victims at shopping malls for weeks before the stabbing on Oct 8 , 2010.

He was arrested moments after plunging the 4-inch blade of a hunting knife five times into the boy's back at the Dave & Buster's restaurant in Westbury.

The boy's father and a witness cornered Sachs within seconds of the attack, holding him until police arrived.

The boy miraculously survived and was hospitalized with a collapsed lung. He has since recovered.

Police say Sachs was carrying a typed note indicating he intended to kill a child. They say the victim apparently was chosen at random.

Sachs' mother, Randi, told reporters that her son had a psychotic episode that day and was on a suicide mission.
