9-Year-Old Morris County Girl Dies In Pool At Jersey Shore Motel

SEASIDE HEIGHTS, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Authorities said a Morris County girl vacationing with her parents at the Jersey Shore has died after she was found unconscious in a motel swimming pool.

The victim, identified only as a 9-year-old Mine Hill girl, was pulled from the pool at the Skyview Manor Motel in Seaside Heights around 5:15 p.m. Wednesday. A borough police officer soon arrived and began performing CPR, but the girl was pronounced dead a short time later at Community Medical Center in Toms River.

Authorities estimated the girl was under water for two to three minutes before a bystander noticed her and pulled her out.

It was not immediately clear how the girl got into the pool.

Witnesses said the victim's parents were not near the pool at the time of the incident, despite the fact the signs posted read that children under 16-years-old were to be accompanied by an adult.
