NYPD: Man In Armored Truck Guard Uniform Steals $15K From Queens Business

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Police say a man dressed as an armored truck guard stole nearly $15,000 in cash from a check cashing business.

It happened around 10:15 a.m. on July 22 at Lorenzo’s Enterprises in Queens.

Police say the suspect, who was wearing a GARDA Armored Courier uniform, walked in and said he was there for a pickup. The suspect was handed the cash by an employee and then left the store.

Workers didn’t think anything was strange until a real armored guard showed up a few hours later for a scheduled pickup.

When they contacted the company, they found out the first armored guard was not a real employee.

Police say the suspect was described as Hispanic, about 33 to 34-years-old and was last seen wearing the GARDA uniform. He is still at large.

Anyone with information should call police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or visit  www.nypdcrimestoppers.com.

Based on the news report this guy is either a ex Garda employee or has some sort of connection to the company through a relative or friend. If I was that guy, I would make tracks far far away from the Metro area before those old employee files give him up.

People…if you own a business prone to theft…don’t buy the cheap surveillance cameras.

Looks like this is major case for the man on the 5th floor of #1 Police plaza who has been hiding in the 3rd draw of an old file cabinet in room 515 for the past 3 years polishing his rubber Gun and collecting a salary for walking around with a clipboard and pencil pretending to be busy

    1) No visible weapon on waist. 2) Dangling keys (?) nonchalantly instead of clutching where his weapon should be 3) Entered alone, not as a pair.

Hmmm…..perhaps being a bit more observant from behind the glass would have helped?

Clearly an inside Job! Either the Check Cashing Company or the Armored Truck Company! That’s a lesson to be learned! I bet they’ll change procedure and policy now. Dude probably walked in off the street. Thank God no one got hurt, he probably was armed…
