Yankees Bring Smiles To Children Of Haiti’s Earthquake During HOPE Week
WCBS 880′s Alex Silverman Boards The Bus
These fifteen kids lost their home in last year’s earthquake; some are still too young to comprehend it.
Wednesday evening, they got to see the city that’s taken them in, walking around the diamond at Yankee Stadium before boarding a Gray Line double-decker bus.
They went over to the Empire State Building, where Jorge Posada helped them light up the sky.
Then it was off to dinner in Times Square with a special delivery of pizza from captain Derek Jeter.
Father Jean Delva runs Ss. Joachim and Anne’s School in Queens and has been teaching the children to move on.
“Seeing the kids themselves having fun, I think it’s a blessing for them, just being here,” he told WCBS 880′s Alex Silverman.
Pitcher CC Sabathia was aboard the bus and said, “They’ve been through a tough time and it’s just good to be able to get them away from it for a day and be able to hang out.”
