Teams will be officially allowed to sign their free agents tonight at 6 p.m..

Brad Smith grew tired of waiting around for the Jets and agreed to a deal far north in Buffalo with the Bills.  The Giants are bringing back Mathias Kiwanuka, but word is defensive end Osi Umenyiora is planning to hold out for a new contract.

As for the Mets, Howie Rose had a passionate call for Jason Bay’s 5th inning double that knocked IN 3 runs.  Bay had 3 hits on the day – raising his average to .230 – and Boomer was encouraged that despite his ‘baby blues’ Bay was able to accomplish his 3-4, 3 RBI performance during a day game – a game the Mets won (their 4th in-a-row) by a score of 10-9 over the Reds in Cincinnati.

Carlos Betran made his debut with the Giants in Philadelphia and went 0-4 in a win and we also learned that former Yankees pitcher Hideki Irabu was found dead after an apparent suicide…
