10-Year-Old Australian Girl Killed In Astoria Car Crash

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The weekend ended in tragedy after a 10-year-old Australian girl was killed in an accident in Queens.

Police say a minivan flipped onto its side after a Nissan Sentra collided with the vehicle at 34th Avenue and 31st Street in Astoria around 6:40 p.m. Sunday.

According to investigators, Sabrina Mangos was thrown from the minivan and became pinned underneath.

About 20 bystanders and neighbors rushed over to help upright the van and help the family, according to witness Miller Bermeo , who was among them. He owns a restaurant at the intersection and spoke with 1010 WINS.

Mangos was pronounced dead at Mt. Sinai Hospital of Queens.

Six other passengers from the minivan were injured. The 55-year-old driver of the Nissan was not hurt.

No charges have been filed.
