New City Softball Team Has Championship Aspirations Heading To Little League World Series

NEW CITY, N.Y. (CBS 2) -- A young softball team from Rockland County has dreams of becoming world champions.

The New City Little League All-Stars are off to Oregon as one of 10 teams to compete in the World Series tournament.

The 12 and 13 years old girls say even they are shocked about their journey and the chance to take on the world.

"I didn't even know it was possible for us to get this far," one player told CBS 2's Scott Rapoport.

"It's just like the best feeling in the world. I can't even describe it," said another.

They are not your typical girl's softball team to be sure. The newly crowned Eastern Region champions of Little League Softball heading off to Oregon to compete in the Little League Softball World Series.

"We're gonna remember this the rest of our lives," said another player.

They have been described by some as the sweethearts of the tournament by winning over everyone with their perky personalities and their penchant for dancing on the field between innings.

"They have bubbly personalities. They've very friendly. They're very quick to make friends on all the different teams," Coach Mike Herskowitz said.

Their moms' say it captures their daughters' love of life and love of the game.

"They're all about fun. And their all about winning with pride and with ease," Barbara Lerche said.

"We're kind of like a little family here -- all sisters," said one player.
