Police: Man Armed With Box Cutters Shot By Officer In Queens

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police responded to a 9-1-1 call about a domestic dispute on 21st Street and 27th Road in Queens early Wednesday morning.

A 46-year-old woman alerted police that a 42-year-old armed man was assaulting her and her two children.

Officers said they found the suspect armed with box cutters in each hand in a four-story residential building. They called for additional officers and backed out of the vestibule to establish a perimeter.

Police said they followed the suspect around the corner to 28th Avenue, where the patrol supervisor on scene told the suspect repeatedly to drop the weapons before firing a Taser and discharging pepper spray.

Police said the suspect still didn't drop the knives, so one officer shot him in the torso. EMS took him to Elmhurst General, where he was listen in stable condition.

The investigation was ongoing.
