Police: Long Island Taxi Driver Stabbed Over Fare

NORTH HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork)Police in Nassau County said 35-year-old Christopher Heron stabbed 32-year-old William Mena in the torso after the two taxi drivers fought over who was going to pick up a customer.

Mena was a 32-year-old married father with two children from Maspeth. Heron was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

The encounter happened around 9:30 last night in a parking lot in North Hempstead Friday. Mena was pronounced dead at 12:16 a.m. Saturday.

Both men worked for Ollie’s Taxi in Franklin Square.

Detectives request anyone with information about this homicide to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.

    The difference between cab drivers in NYC and on LI is the protective glass between the front and back in the city protects the driver from the passenger and on LI it protects the passenger from the driver
