NJ Man To Serve 1 Year In Jail For Sex Assault On Continental Airlines Flight

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A New Jersey man who admitted to fondling a sleeping female passenger on a flight from Hong Kong to Newark will spend a year in prison.

Sixty-five-year-old Ramesh Advani, of Berkeley Heights, was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court in Newark.

Prosecutors say Advani was seated next to the victim on an overnight Continental Airlines flight in May 2010.

Advani admitted he reached under a blanket covering the woman and assaulted her. She awoke and alerted the flight crew, and Advani was detained when the plane landed.

Advani had pleaded guilty in April to a charge of abusive sexual contact.

He also has been fined $10,000 and must serve five years of supervised release once he is freed.
