Specialty Food Truck Donates Dinners And Dollars To New Yorkers In Need

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — They say there’s no such thing as a free lunch. But Monday — for 120,000 New Yorkers— there will be free dinners.

Italian food company Barilla will be boarding a food truck and handing out 20,000 “Meal for Meal” dinner kits in four highly-populated New York City locations, starting Monday Aug. 15. The kits will consist of a box of pasta, salad greens and olive oil and vinegar.

For each dinner distributed, the food company will donate $1 to Food Bank For NYC. Once all the dinner kits are dispersed, there will have been 100,000 meals donated to the Food Bank – or 5 meals for each dollar donated.

The Pasta Truck’s first stop will be at Union Square, where it will be situated on Aug. 15 from 4 – 8 p.m.

Why not just donate the $ straight to the Food Bank and not use it for a dumb publicity stunt? The food they’re handing out to people who don’t actually need it could very well be given to those who do. If they want to give stuff away then why not set up at a few local food banks to distribute to those in need?

Also just a general comment – as more people turn to the internet for news do you think brands like cbs could hire people who actually know how to write informed articles instead of the drivel we continually get? Local news is important but this stuff is just painful to read.
