Kashif Parvaiz Charged With First-Degree Murder In Boonton, N.J. Shooting Death Of Wife Nazish Noorani

BOONTON N.J. (CBSNewYork) — There were two bombshell arrests made Friday in the murder of a mother of two, who was gunned down on a quiet street earlier this week.

Kashif Parvaiz was charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of his wife, 27-year-old Nazish Noorani, as she pushed their 3-year-old son in a stroller after leaving her sister’s home, where they broke the Ramadan fast late Tuesday night.

“Within hours of the crime, it was obvious to investigators that this was sadly the alleged handy work of the victim’s husband, who allegedly did the unthinkable and plotted to murder his wife after a religious celebration,” Morris County Prosecutor Robert Bianchi said.

The alleged murder weapon was found in Parvaiz’s SUV and prosecutors said the man eventually broke down and confessed to the killing.

Authorities said the Pakistani-American man plotted the killing with another woman, 26-year-old Antoinette Stephen, who was also arrested and charged in the plot.  Parvaiz previously told police that his family was attacked by a group of three men shouting slurs about “terrorists.”

Parvaiz was arraigned Friday and is being held on $1 million bail.  Stephen, of Billerica, Mass., has also been arrested, charged and arraigned in the plot. She is being held on $5 million bail.

Parvaiz, who sustained gunshot wounds to the shoulder and foot, told police that he and his wife were approached by three gunmen who just opened fire. Noorani was killed instantly after being shot in the heart. She was laid to rest Friday following a Funeral Mass at the Islamic Center in Boonton.

1010 WINS’ Glenn Schuck reports: Prosecutors Say This Was Not A Bias Crime

Morris County Prosecutor Robert Bianchi holds the police booking photos of Kashif Parvaiz, left, and Antoinette Stephen, who were charged in the murder of 27-year-old Nasish Noorani, during a news conference, Friday, Aug. 19, 2011, in Morristown, N.J. (AP Photo/Julio Cortez)

Bianchi didn’t go into details about the nature of the relationship between Parvaiz and Stephen, but in an arrest affidavit said Parvaiz and Noorani had a turbulent relationship. He also did not say who pulled the trigger.

“There is obviously a relationship. I am not saying it is a physical relationship, I am not saying it is a girlfriend-boyfriend relationship. These are details that our detectives and investigators…are trying to determine,” Bianchi said.

The affidavit quoted a text message from Noorani to her brother that said “Someday u will find me dead but its cuz of kashi … He wants to kill me.”

Prosecutors believe Parvaiz and Stephen allegedly plotted the murder “for a significant period of time.” Authorities said Stephen had met with Parvaiz in Brooklyn to discuss the alleged murder plot.

The affidavit also quotes text messages between Parvaiz and Stephen days before the murder:

Aug. 12, 11:34 a.m. Stephen texted Parvaiz, “You hang in there. Freedom is just around ur corner,” the affidavit said.

Aug. 14, 1:03 p.m. Parvaiz to Stephen, “Well I need to speak to you and explain to you how to approach the situation. ill be despositing money tomorrow morning and ill see you tomorrow evening night.”

Aug. 15, 10:07 p.m. Parvaiz to Stephen, “I can meet u I told Naz I ate too much and im going out for a walk where r u.”

Aug. 15, 10:07 p.m. Parvaiz to Stephen, “Driving now.”

Aug 15, 10:07 p.m. Parvaiz to Stephen, “K text me when u in neighborhood.”

Aug 15, 10:07 p.m. Parvaiz to Stephen, “I’m down church street.”

Aug. 15, 10:44 p.m. Stephen to Pervaiz, “I know, I saw. I’m driving to the nearest precinct. To judge their driving distance.”

Aug. 15, 10:44 p.m. Parvaiz to Stephen, “ull have a 10 mints head start.”

Aug. 15, 10:44 p.m. Stephen to Parvaiz, “I know. its just that since we’re close to Lubnas [Noorani’s sister] house plus they’re going to be awake, they’ll come out first. I’ll be running right their way. U need to. … stall for some time along the road a little away so they’re not alert.”

Aug. 15, 10:44 p.m. Stephen to Parvaiz, “Oh [expletive]. Im parked near Naz’s home. Was going to walk the area.”

Aug. 15, 11:37 p.m. Stephen to Parvaiz, “I was parked outside Lubnas home. Just one car distance away from the first parked car. I wanted to see ppl movement arnd that corner”

Aug. 16, 2:12 p.m. Stephen to Parvaiz, “Call me when you can. Delete all msgs from phone. I won’t message from here on”

They finalized the arrangements in a cellphone call on Tuesday — the day of the attack, according to prosecutors. Stephen called Pervaiz at 9:30 p.m., according to the affidavit and the shooting took place shortly after 11 p.m.

In addition to the murder charge, Parvaiz and Stephen also face conspiracy and weapons charges. Parvaiz is also charged with hindering apprehension or prosecution and child endangerment.

Noorani’s sister, Lubna Choudhry, said Parvaiz had asked his wife to go for a walk just before the attack occurred, but Noorani said she was too tired.

“I can’t believe she’s dead,” Choudhry said. “She just told me ‘I’m coming back.'”

Choudhry also said Noorani had been unhappy in her marriage with Parvaiz ever since the couple moved from Brooklyn to Boston.

“The last three months, she’s upset, because he’s not… behave normal,” Choudhry said. She also said that she thought it was odd when she spotted Parvaiz walking around her property two days before the shooting.

Noorani and Parvaiz were wed in an arranged marriage six years ago.

“This case once again underscores the fact that domestic violence knows no divisions of faiths or backgrounds,” Bianchi said. “We encourage all that are abused by their partners to find the courage to end the cycle of mental, physical, and emotional violence before it is too late.”

Investigators say the investigation is still ongoing, and ask anyone with additional information to call (973) 285-2900 or (973) COP-CALL.

I’d like to point out that it was NOT an arranged marriage, and I am a little confused as to why the writer would included that sentence in the first place. It almost seems like the intention here was to blame it on arranged marriages. Now I’m not saying that was what the writer was trying to do, but we have to be well aware of our cultural biases.

This is so Sad!!!…..Prayers goes out to the victims family….
By the way she looks like Tiger Woods. Stephen was manipulated
by Parvaiz to carry out the murder, I could see it in her face she’s

  3. 2gruesome2b says:

the husband was wounded in the shoulder and in a foot, so the recounting of the incident goes. the female shooter must have been known to be a crack shot, or he never gave any consideration to the possibility she might have the shakes, and drill him through the head or heart. possibly she is the “other woman”, or he might have gotten her name from a website advertising satisfaction guaranteed rub-outs. maybe the ghost of lepke buchalter still roams the streets, having relocated to the garden state.

Why no trial? Are you saying that Constitutional protections don’t apply to certain defendants accused of certain crimes? Where does the Constitution say that?

  6. LJ. Mormann says:

It looks bad for him. It would have been more appropriate to ask for a divorce, at least he wouldn’t have to worry about standing trail for muder.

  8. sandbagged says:

This guy should have been thanking Allah for every minute of every day that his particular culture’s and religion’s practice of arranged marriage allowed a beast like him to spend all of his earthly days with a gorgeous woman like her. Instead he murders her? If I were his lawyer, I’d roll with an insanity defense.

      I AGREE!!

Everyone was hoping it was a hate crime and spoke ill of Boonton. They were all wrong. It was a twisted murder love triangle plot and racism had nothing to do with it. Boonton’s good name has been restored. HALLELUJAH!

unspeakable evil this man is …..being of a pakistani descent and a muslim …all i want to say is that this man does not represent the tags that he supposedly bears ….
My condolences and prayers for the victim ,her family and the two innocent kids who now have to deal with this ….this monster is going to get the full brunt of justice thanks to the justice system of this great country.
Hell, im sure, has a very special corner reserved for people like him.

  13. sharon wolff says:

As soon as the News mentioned that “they are working on a person of interest” I knew the husband was involved! If this were s true “bias attack” the perps would have killed the father. However, the mother was killed, and the father “just injured”. Hey people ya got to read between the lines here!
My condolences to the family of the wife.

  14. IgnoranteElephante says:

What are you a doctor of–stupidity? Boy oh boy, some of your comments ramble on incoherently with little sentence structure or coherence.

You make generalizations that our way off base, like arranged marriages lead to murder. There is no causal connection between the two other than this murderer happened to be in an arranged marriage with his victim. I would place money on the fact that he would have done this if it were a non arranged marriage.

    1. NJ Resident says:

Murder has no connection to arranged marriages. Where is the evidence? There are plenty of statistics to show a lot of domestic violence and murders in cases where couples met each other on their own. That was a real stupid comment.

    2. Debbie says:

@ elephant, its sad when you view these forums….state your thoughts and people like you express your ignorance. Make up your mind..if you can.Its either incoherent or coherent. I was quite consistent with what I said. Nothing I stated in either comment was redundant, the subject revolved around a murderous man who happened to be in a arranged marriage. Marriages that have taken place solely by love have resulted in murder, abuse and so forth. I’m familiar with THEIR culture and spoke specificly regarding this arranged marriage. This animal was unhappy and resorted to murder rather than divorce.

  16. SFede says:

I think we need another women’s movement in our society today. Disturbing the increase in stories about this type of possessive violence against women or not just killing them off because there’s another woman in your life. Women are not possessions!

    1. Nj Resident says:

I don’t think that has anything to do with it. The guy was plain stupid and probably had a low IQ and never did well in school. I would even go further and guess he was a little slow. How stupid does someone have to be to not know that all of those text messages they sent would be recovered? He couldn’t think of a better plan? This has nothing to do with being possesive. It has to do with being stupid and evil where you have no concern for another’s life. The life of the mother of your own children.

jerome, you must be black… nothing else needs to be said because we see how well you primates treat your women…

    3. sam I am says:

everyone talks about how badly women are treated in other cultures… but right here in america, women are exploited and abused on a daily basis beyond imagination… and then we have the nerve to condemn other people on their human rights record… we ought to do something to protect our own before lecturing others on how to tend to theirs… also, if protests and movements accomplished anything, they would be outlawed…

    1. hammad says:

good point ….my guess is that they are immigrants, probably not very educated and not much savvy to sort out the lies he was weaving about ….i grew up in bklyn as well and am of pakistani descent ….unfortunately its not unusual in that community to have complete hicks who barely speak english and are completely out of the loop of what their american born children are upto ….

  18. B k says:

it was not a arrange maarriage .. it was a love marriage

    1. Jerry says:

      your not reading????????/

      1. Debbie says:

@ Jerry, B k is one of those humans whose vision is blurred by stupidity. They read but see only what they want to see. it’s called denial. Most likely based on his lack of comprehension he will be one of those “people’ who can’t take face value for what it is. The relationship is not what we thought it to be..you’re not happy, neither am I..and what’s in the best interest for the children is that we part but continue to be loving parents to our children. By no means, berate or degrade or physically harm the other to prevent a lack of one/two parent.

      2. sam I am says:

learn to spell jerry… it’s “you’re” not reading… and maybe you can take a class on the proper use of punctuation marks…

      3. S says:

Yes the article does say it was arranged but B K is correcting the info. The marriage actually was not arranged, it was by their own choice, a love marriage. That, by the way, is true. You are going by an article and I am going by what family members have said.

  19. LG says:

Don’t have to be Sherlock Holmes to figure that one out…

  20. Big Nards says:

I knew he killed his wife.

  21. ProFromDover says:

Unfortunately, no death penalty in NJ. Maybe that’s why they carried out the crime in Boonton.

But, with any luck, the Feds can pick this up as a capital case, since the conspiracy was plotted in MA and they crossed state lines to carry it out.

  22. vy says:

Another example of why “arranged marraiges” are a disater. It’s amazing this type of disater does not happen more often. People who come to this country should be required to give up the customes used to force control of some people by other people (even if it’s parents controling the relationships of their adult children). If people come to this country with the intention to staying here as citizens, they should uphold the social patterns of this country, such as people have the freedom to choose who they fall in love with independent of the dictates of their parents.

    1. Farzina says:

Ur a stupid and ignorant person! I’m in a lovely arranged marriage!! So shut up!

    2. hammad says:

i disagree ….although its not the way i’d recommend getting married personally ….arranged marriages do work in alot of cases also….i personally know a few ppl….and besides ….if it wasnt working ….you can always separate and divorce ….you dont have to kill the other person …..thats the craziest part about it …

    3. sam I am says:

you can’t even spell ‘arranged marriage… IDIOT

    4. S says:

Firstly, this was not an arranged marriage. Yes, I know that’s what the article says but the family says differently. Secondly, your version of an arranged marriage is the extreme one that the media has brainwashed you with. The majority of arranged marriages do not work this way. Also, just so you know, in Islam a marriage is not religiously valid if either party is forced. They have to agree on their own free will. Unfortunately, people forget that all too often.

  23. Nabiha says:

How do you kill your wife?? If you didn’t like her, just get a divorce. Now these poor kids are gonna grow up without a mother and their father is going to be in prison for killing her. Its a very messed up situation.

  24. Jimmney says:

The “other” woman looks quite ugly. I can’t understand why the fool didn’t stay put with his lovely wife.

    1. Amy says:

Hmmm. Maybe because there’s more to a person’s personality than their looks?

      1. just upchucked says:

There is? I aggree w/ Jimmney, the “other” thing is hideous. Looks like an Indian pug w/ an asscrack as a chin.

      2. Debbie says:

@ Amy….UHHH..Grow-up Amy. If you are a mature adult man/woman in a “committed relationship” and you feel as though it has ran its course then you come to an amicable decision and part ways. YOU DON’T CONCOCT A MURDER PLAN WITH A PERSPECTIVE MATE TO KILL YOUR EXISTENT WIFE/MOTHER OF YOUR CHILDREN !! She could possibly have the beauty of a runway model, it still does not justify killing your wife to be with her. NOW HE WILL BE BUBBAS’ GIRL AND SHE WILL BE BIG KAYS’ GIRL. Either way you look at it, it’s absolutely sickening to know he would do such a thing..for all he knew the bullet could have killed his child in the stroller. He thought of no-one but himself. Hopefully when the smoke clears and reality sets in, the family will lean on each other for comfort and care for her children that she unwillingly left behind.

      3. sam I am says:

yeah! but nobody says :wow! there’s a really ugly chick, I think I’ll go talk to her”… it just goes to show that he did not have the mental capacity to reason… his wife was actually kind of cute… what an idiot!

      4. sam I am says:

are you the homely-looking type amy?

  25. tuckz says:

My heart goes out to the family of the victim and her young child that will be left without parents. Marriage can be difficult enough without two people being forced together.

  26. Debbie says:

For the past two days I was literally fixated on this case because as a physician in the Flushing area, I see a great deal of the results of “arranged marriages”. Majority of the women/men are young in age and mind, the parents want the best education and financial means for their child and as a result this is what occurs. It’s understanding but in this day and age they need to become more adapt to “this way” of living and allow their children to venture out and seek the best lives for themselves. The worst thing to do is perhaps push a young person into being with someone that they would not love on their own. As a result it ends in murder..abuse..neglect or in some cases being dis-owned by their families. He didn’t love her..he went to the extreme of literally leading her to her death with their child in tow and possibly he being wounded himself just….to get out. Thank God that we as women have the tendency to communicate via text..e-mail or writing..it will perhaps spell the life you live/d.

    1. Johnny's yellow says:

so women are a possesion? Seems like you’re in an arranged marriage, Johnny.
