NEW YORK (WFAN/AP) — Quarterback Kerry Collins has had a long NFL career. He was a fixture on the Giants in the early 2000s, where he lost Super Bowl XXXV to the Baltimore Ravens. He was most recently employed by the Tennessee Titans.

The 38-year-old retired in July after 16 seasons in the NFL. He had faced free agency after his contract with the Titans expired, though he said he still wanted to play.

He’ll get his shot.

The owner of the Indianapolis Colts says the team is bringing in veteran quarterback Kerry Collins to back up Peyton Manning.

Manning is still recovering from neck surgery in May. Owner Jim Irsay had been public about the team’s search for someone else with third-year veteran Curtis Painter, longtime backup Dan Orlovsky and undrafted rookie Mike Hartline the only other quarterbacks on the roster.

Irsay tweeted Wednesday that “We have agreed to terms with Kerry Collins…more details to come.”

In 195 career games, Collins had a 55.8 completion percentage and threw for 40,441 yards, 206 touchdowns and 195 interceptions.
