NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) – What started out as a day of fun in the sun turned into a scuffle and numerous arrests at Rye Playland.

Some 3,000 people were part of a Muslim tour group who went to the park Tuesday to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, the end of Ramadan.

Things started to go south, however, when women wearing headscarves wanted to get on some of the rides. Any sort of head covering is banned on the rides for safety reasons.

The women were offered refunds.

According to Westchester County officials, some members of the tour started to argue among themselves, and when park rangers attempted to intervene, they wound up injured and hospitalized.

Parks Deputy Commissioner Peter Tartaglia told the Associated Press the tour operator had been told about the ban repeatedly before the event.

Tartaglia explained the reason for the ban, saying scarves can get caught in mechanical equipment, fly off, land on tracks, choke riders and more.

“We respect the religious purpose of wearing it, but we have several rides that cannot go on with any sort of headgear,” said Tartaglia.

Police responded to the scene and the park was shut down for two hours. 15 people were arrested and later released.

Is the ban on headscarves at the park appropriate? Should there be a broader ban on headscarves?

The bottom line here is that Ryeland is a privately owned amusement park with rules and regulations for ALL people regardless of race, gender, or religion. If you do not want to or can’t follow the rules (particularly safety rules) then you either don’t go on that ride or leave the park all together – period.

This was organized for the purpose of causing conflict and challenging the rules. The muslims DO NOT want to comply or assimilate in any way, they put on these “shows” in order to gain sympathy from Americans who will join their cause.

Let em choke on their scarfs?? It’s their constitutional right. All this micromanaging? Like the government really cares about the people? What happened to the constitution? Stop the control, if someone want to get their scarf caught let them, stop controlling everyone!!!!!!

What if someone’s scarf gets caught but it entangles an innocent bystander… your child maybe. Is it ok then or are you just too short-sighted and stupid to realize someone ELSE might be in danger.

“Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor is a Muslim, and as his time in space coincided with the last part of Ramadan, the Islamic National Fatwa Council drew up the first comprehensive guidebook for Muslims in space.[1][3] The 18-page guidebook is titled “Guidelines for Performing Islamic Rites (Ibadah) at the International Space Station”, and details issues such as how to pray in a low-gravity environment, how to locate Mecca from the ISS, how to determine prayer times, and issues surrounding fasting. The orbit of the ISS results in one day/night cycle every 90 minutes,[1][28] so the issues of fasting during Ramadan are also addressed. “

Just a couple of months ago I was trying to post my anti gay marriage opinion on this site, which were niether hateful or distructive. I now read a multitude of of over the top clearly racsist, bigoted commments that the censor allows now. Just proves WHO is ” RINGING ” things. These women have a consitutional right to express there religious freedom. End of story.

Where ever Muslims congregate, strife inevitably arises. That is a fact. If you doubt, research for yourself. This religion is bane on the civilized world. I fear it will lead humanity to extinction by the actions of zealous wingnuts.
