Police: Brooklyn Driver Left Crash Scene That Left Passenger Dead

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A 25-year-old Brooklyn man has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident that killed one of his passengers and injured seven others.

Police say Brian Pittsley was charged with criminally negligent homicide and leaving the scene of an accident.

Police said he was driving a Chevrolet Suburban with friends on Staten Island when he ran a stop sign and was struck by a Nissan Sentra Monday night.

Pittsley was arrested on Tuesday near his home. He was scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday. It wasn't immediate clear if he had a lawyer.

One of his passengers, 18-year-old Angel Rivera, was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Police say a 17-year-old girl's arm was partially severed. Six other passengers in the SUV sustained minor injuries.
