South Bay Elementary School Reopens On Long Island

WEST BABYLON, NY (CBSNewYork) - A West Babylon school has risen from the ashes after a devastating fire destroyed the establishment over a year ago.

It was in February 2010 when students and parents were crying outside the South Bay Elementary School.

The school had burned down.

After 18 months, the school has been rebuilt and students are coming back to the classrooms.

"Everything is brand new, state of the art. There are smartboards in every single classroom, computers in every classroom, and the building just looks wonderful," said superintendent Anthony Cacciola. "Really the only piece of the building that remained was the front of the building and the side."

Principal Joann Scott said the school is now equipped with Wi-Fi and a full Broadway stage set up in the cafeteria.

The students from grades K through 5 had been using a nearby church for classes.
