Evan Sachs Gets 14-Year Prison Sentence In Child Stabbing At Dave & Buster's

MINEOLA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A Long Island man who admitted stabbing a young boy five times at a restaurant video arcade was sentenced Thursday to serve 14 years in prison.

Evan Sachs pleaded guilty in July to attempted murder and assault. He admitted plunging a 4-inch hunting knife into the boy's back at a Dave & Buster's restaurant in Westbury last October.

The boy, who is now 9, survived.

The 23-year-old man's attorney and his mother both said Sachs had a long history of mental illness. They say he expected to be shot by police after stabbing the boy.

Police said Sachs had been stalking potential victims for weeks. He was arrested moments after injuring the boy.
