Most people hear Junior's and they think cheesecake, but the reality is not only do they also make the food you eat before dessert, they make it well. Check out the breakfast spread (served all day): some claim the corned beef hash is the best you'll ever taste. A lot of the food offered is what you'll find on any diner menu, it's true, but the best part of eating lunch at Junior's is, of course, getting their cheesecake for dessert. Try the strawberry swirl; it's divine. Bonus: if you go for breakfast, they give you a basket of complimentary danishes to nosh.

Authentic Malaysian in the corner of a parking lot in Elmhurst, Penang offers satay (pictured), roti canai, char kway teow (a spicy seafood noodle dish), and also roti telur, an appetizer of roti (a thin, chewy crepe-like bread) stuffed with eggs, peppers and scallions before being cut into pieces for you to dip into curry. Satay - tender cubes of chicken or beef on skewers - comes with a lovely peanut based dipping sauce that will have you returning again and again for a swipe. If you're heat-averse, an order of iced tea may help alleviate the spiciness as your meal progresses.

It may be unimaginable to some to go to Hog Pit when you're directly across the street from Hill Country, but shove aside preconceptions and step inside this excellent dive bar. Not only is it the perfect dive bar in the area, they offer a fairly extensive BBQ menu at Hog Pit. Start your meal with frickles, or fried pickles (pictured): expertly fried to a crunchy crisp on the outside while maintaining the pickle-y interior, served with a chipotle mayo for dipping, these are some of the best in the city. Any of their BBQ entrees or sandwiches are a great choice, but for your sides, you shouldn't miss the garlicky green beans, cooked tender-crisp, deceiving you into thinking you're eating something healthy with your 'cue (you're not; they border on oily, but butter makes everything better!) or the sweet potato fries that come with raspberry ketchup.
