The senior at Murry Bergtraum was shot in the head in the Grant Houses in Morningside Heights.

Murphy, known as “chicken” at home and on the court, was also considered one of the top girls basketball players in the city and was ranked as the 16th best point guard in the nation for her class by ESPN.

“She was very much liked by the other players on the team and the other students in the school and she was very much respected. She was a leader,” said her coach Ed Grezinsky after. “Very senseless because she had everything to live for. She was a great kid.”

Investigators already had arrested a third man, 24-year-old Terique Collins, in the case for criminal possession of a weapon.

The young men will need to tell what really took place, the one that was gang beaten and all the fights that led to this tragic death, Someone will be doing time for the murder, but the communities are all hurting. No one knows the pain
or impact of something happening to people with families. May God continue to lift the communities out of this sorrow occurance. May we continue to pray for the Murphy Family and fight the federal goverment in changing the gun laws.
