From Steve Somers

NEW YORK (WFAN) – “He’s coming out now? He’s coming out now!”

Howie Rose sounded as stunned as the Mets crowd when Jose Reyes was pulled from Wednesday’s game.

The sky is falling, the world is coming to an end!

Relax already, says Steve Somers. It’s really not that big of a deal.

You do what you have to do to win a game. You do what you have to do to win a batting title.

Reyes has broken the baseball code of ethics? As if baseball has any ethics anymore?

Can we move on?

no, the world isn’t coming to an end, but this was such a bush league move. so lame. play the damn game. i’m a mets fan and a reyes fan and i was actually rooting for Braun last night. reyes’s batting title is almost asterisk-worthy. his removal from the game is yet another awful and embarrassing choice by an embarrassing franchise. thankfully it was overshadowed by one of the most exciting nights in the history of regular-season baseball.

Reyes played every out of a 13 inning game on Tuesday night. He also had 2 home runs while Braun was taking walks in front of Prince Fielder.

Adam G, agree with everything you said. Yeah, last nite’s Wild Card madness did take the spotlight of Reyes opting to back in to the title. And yes, a lot of Mets fans wound up rooting for Ryan Braun just based on fair play.
Also, gotta take Steve Somers to task. He says get over it, it’s only sports. But you can use that for any sports argument. It’s intellectual laziness. You can’t dismiss something as “it’s only sports” when you’ve dedicated your entire professional life to sports talk.
