NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — Hey Big Apple: Disappointed with Apple?

While many New Yorkers were anticipating the reveal of the iPhone 5, Apple Inc. CEO Tim Cook has instead unveiled the company’s new iPhone 4S.

Web Extra: Best iPhone Apps for New Yorkers

It is said to run seven times faster than its predecessor and has new mobile software that can sync content wirelessly, without having to plug an iPhone to a Mac or Windows machine.

The iPhone has gained millions of fans since the first model came out in 2007, thanks to its slick looks, high-resolution screen and intuitive software.

Apple has improved its camera function which can lock auto-focus on a single point in the frame, reduce red-eye and auto-enhance photos. The camera app will now also be accessible from the lock screen.

A new app called Cards lets you create cards on your phone or iPod Touch and then have them printed out and mailed to you by Apple. It will cost $2.99 to mail in the United States and $4.99 for the rest of the world.

This was the first major product event in years that Steve Jobs did not preside over.

Jobs, who has been battling health problems, resigned from the CEO post in August and is now executive chairman. Cook has been in charge of day-to-day operations for years, but isn’t as recognizable as Jobs.

When Apple released the iPad2 in March, hundreds of New Yorkers waited in line outside the Apple store on 5th Avenue to get their hands on one.

I’m so disappointed that i may be forced to shoot myself. My entire life revolves around when the next iphone will be released.

  • Excellent Phone

Awesome phone. Great hardware refresh to grab more market share. Nothing compares to an iphone. All those junk freebie androids are a joke. There’s no comparison.

Why have an iOS5 if you don’t have an IPHONE 5?

  • Emilio

I still have my 3GS so this one will be new for me…

They’re still finishing up the final touches on iPhone5′s most impressive feature: The ability to call yourself in the past if you ever owned any of the previous versions of iPhone.

So those of you who want to be able to do this will need to run out and get your iPhone4S now. You’ll then start receiving calls from your future self giving you the lotto numbers for the next 8 to 12 months until 5 comes out.

Come on, it’s a GREAT investment!

I heard you can speak to dead people with iPhone 4S. Let’s call Jimmy Hoffa!

The way I see it is you can get an iPhone or get a life. Which do you choose?

  • Schmellma Arss

Hey, do these iPhones and other Apple products come in suppository form? You’d think they would since Apple users are so anal.

  • JOHN

There’s a place called lost, perhaps you should get there …….. quickly.

  • Rose

Frankly, all I feel right now is disappointment. I expected more…

  • Me

    Disappointed.

No iPhone 5??? After all the hype and leaked photos, etc, we are stuck with the same old shell as the 4? Nice improvements overall, but I am definitely let down and will hold out for the slick new 4+ inch screen of the 5.
