Police: Burglar Stole Signed Giants Helmet, 3 Navy Swords From Southampton Home

SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- The hunt is on for a thief who Suffolk County police say stole some unusual items from a home in Southampton.

The homeowner told police he was asleep in his Tuckahoe Lane residence, woke up around 3:10 a.m. Monday and confronted the burglar in his dressing room before the suspect ran off.

A 1987 New York Giants football helmet, signed by team, three Naval Academy dress swords and a Naval Academy ring were among the items stolen.

Police said the burglar also made off with a silver flask, a naval academy money clip, a WII gaming console, a sterling silver tea set and several pieces of costume jewelry.

Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward.
