Sexual Abuse Suspect Arrested In Brooklyn; Not Clear If It's The Park Slope Sex Predator

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - The NYPD says they've caught a sex abuse suspect in Sunset Park, but it's not clear if it is the same predator that has been sexually assaulting women in Park Slope.

Sources are tell 1010 WINS that police are questioning a man in connection with the Park Slope attacks.

Police say Federico Chamorro Yax, 22, faces assault, sex abuse and forcible touching charges following two incidents.

Cops say that early on Sept. 4, Yax allegedly approached a 30-year-old woman on 65th Street in Brooklyn and reached up her skirt.

Just last Sunday, Oct. 2, police say at around 3:00 a.m. on 56th Street in Brooklyn, Yax allegedly struck again. This time, cops say he approached two 22-year-old women. He allegedly grabbed one and fondled her, but the women fought back. They struggled on the ground, and the victims allegedly punching and scratching Yax, who then fled.

1010 WINS' Juliet Papa reports Yax was picked up at his Bensonhurst apartment with traces of blood still present on his shirt.

Yax lives at 1653 65th Street in Brooklyn.

Police in Park Slope have been on the hunt for a man they say raped one woman and sexually assaulted at least eleven others in South Brooklyn since March.

Just weeks ago, residents of Park Slope took the streets to send a message to the rapist: They will not tolerate violence in their neighborhood.
