NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – The “Occupy Wall Street” rally gained thousands of new supporters as New York City became protest city on Wednesday when the group marched to City Hall.  The protests, however, were not without incident.

The NYPD said that there were about a dozen arrests Wednesday night.  Most of those were for disorderly conduct, but at least one arrest was for assaulting a police officer.  Police said a protester knocked an officer off his scooter.

It was night of fury, and physicality by protestors and police, CBS 2′s Sean Hennessey reported. Chopper 2 captured an image of an officer with a baton hitting a protestor as other police surrounded him and tossed the protester to the ground.

“I saw night sticks fly. I saw cops on the floor. I saw them charging groups of people,” Jack DePalmer said.

“There’s been a few agitators here, people real angry — which is understandable. But at the same time, we have to be peaceful about it. Cops are going to be cops — they have to make a living. They’re not the real enemy here,” Ty Davis said.

Meanwhile, there is a sense that the vaguely focused frustration of the demonstration, which was in its 19th day Wednesday, is beginning to resonate more widely. Al Jones of 1010 WINS reported that protestors had marched from Zuccotti Park to Foley Square.

Jones also reported that Foley Square was filled with people, including union members, college students, some clergy members and regular New Yorkers, listening to speakers argue against what they call corporate greed.

The hundreds of protestors who have taken over Zuccotti Park for more than two weeks got reinforcements Wednesday when they were joined by MoveOn.org and other community groups.

CBS 2′s Lou Young described the crowd gathered at Foley Square as “immense” and pointed out that there was even an overflow of people who did not fit in the area.

“We are the 99 percent, you know, and it’s not fair that people don’t have to pay taxes, that corporations don’t have to pay taxes and like we do.  It’s like my mom pays more taxes than like Walmart does,” Helen Curran, a student at Pace University, told Young.

The rage against the machinery of Wall Street is loud and getting louder. So much so that deep inside the financial center, regular workers are feeling maligned and misunderstood.

“Those of us who are still here had to take pay cuts just to keep our jobs. So, they clearly don’t know who they’re going after. They’re going after the guy down the block, not some guy in a castle,” Stephen Guilfoyle, an economist at Meridian Equity Partners, said.

The group also called for a student walkout at college campuses across the country to protest “against unforgivable student debt and soaring tuition rates.”

“Professors are asking their classes to take the day to actually go to this rally,” said Camille Rivera, a spokesperson for “United NY.”

Some students at Brooklyn College heeded the call and joined the protest early Wednesday afternoon.  About 150 students walked out of class at Brooklyn College to join the Wall Street protesters.

Arud Sheikh said the struggle is the same.

“We are the 99 percent. We’re the 99 percent that don’t own the majority of wealth where we’re disgusted… There are clear policy changes that could be made,” she told WCBS 880 reporter Marla Diamond.

Protests took place Wednesday at several other CUNY schools over tuition hikes and cuts in tuition assistance.

“We’re feeling like we’re under attack,” said Brooklyn College senior Daryl Barney. “Tuition is going up and then we’ll be graduating. We have no hopes. We have no real future.”

Walkouts were also scheduled at State University of New York campuses, including Albany, Buffalo, Binghamton, New Paltz and Purchase.

Meanwhile, a video claiming to be by the group “Anonymous” has surfaced on YouTube. “Anonymous” said it will shut down the New York Stock Exchange website Monday.

The video is addressed to the media and says that Anonymous has been witnessing the events of the weeks-long Wall Street protests and has had enough.

Watch the video below:

“We will not stand by and watch the system take over our way of life. We the people shall against the government’s inaction. We the people will not be witnesses to your corruption and ill-gotten profits. We will not labor for your leisure. We will not assist you in any way,” the video says.

It goes on to say that it will attack the New York Stock Exchange‘s site.

“This is why we chose to declare our war against the New York Stock Exchange. We can  no longer stay silent as the population is being taken advantage of for the sake of profit. We will show the world that we are true to our word. On Oct. 10, NYSE will be erased from the internet. On Oct. 10, expect a day that will never, ever be forgot.”

In September, Anonymous released the name of a New York City police officer who was seen pepper spraying protestors in a video that was also posted to YouTube.

On Thursday, demonstrators are planning to rally in front of the Goldman Sachs offices in Jersey City at 2 p.m. In addition, protesters plan to gather at the same time in front of the Statehouse in Trenton.

A spokeswoman for Goldman Sachs declined to comment on the planned protest.

Terrorist threats against the financial sector of our country. What is Sec Napolitano and Mr Holder doing or saying about this? Maybe the news media should ask them?

  • N Y P DrP I G S

How is this “Anonymous” group able to say so…anonymous? I can’t even walk down the street to but a loaf of bread without everyone finding out if they really wanted to with cameras and internet tracking everywhere nowadays.

This being said, I do support what these people are trying to do. Just not fair that someone like Gloomberg has billion$ that he certainly does not need (especially at his age of 69), while people are still sleeping on the subway and streets. Just not right.

And anyone that tells me otherwise is probably either a cop (aka pig) who is merely a puppet of the corporate party politicians who just LOVES arresting, pepper-spraying, even drawing his gun on people for the fun of it while padding his pension; or someone who squeezes millions themselves like the one on here who calls himself ‘Wall St bond trader”. More like inside trader who should take his 2 or 3 million (probably more) already taxed dollars and go retire in Florida. No reason for someone like him to squeeze any more money out of a had-working, a$$-busting citizen like myself.

Yeah, right. His tax dollars. Go get a job and actually pay taxes, ya miserable parasite. And get out of Mommy and Daddy’s basement and try making your own way. Same with the rest of this rabble.

  • Karen

Good for these people. Finally, people who will stand up for what should be right in this country. In this recession the only ones who have made out are the corporations and banks. Let’s take America back. Then maybe people like Eric would be able to get a job that offers opportunities that this country used to offer. For some reason we don’t get mad at CEO’s who make 300 x’s what the average worker makes. We get mad at the average worker and expect them to take less. We need jobs that offer the same benefits CEO’s and politicians get not the crap that is being put out there. The true morons are the people who sit passively by and allow their fellow Americans to be taken advantage of.

  • JC Guerrero

Wall Street and corporations should be counting their lucky stars. If only 2-5% of everyone who currently is unemployed, underemployed, homeless or had their homes foreclosed on were to show up and protest the system would most probably crash.

  • karen

These people are terrorist because their fighting for rights that have always been a part of America. The only terrorists are people like you who sit idly by and let the financial sector screw this country. That is exactly what real terrorists do they they follow their leader no matter the consequences to others. Obviously your leader is the Financial Sect

  • Bill Galluccio

These socialist anarchist are such hypocrites. Nobody forced them to go to college. Nobody forced them to go to a school like NYU or Columbia. They could have gotten the same education by going to a local community college, but they CHOSE to go to a school that charges $40,000 a year. Now they graduated, realized their degree is worthless because a company could care less about if you took classes gender studies, and upset because their “liberal arts” education is a joke. The ones that have jobs are complaining they don’t make enough money. Tough. I graduated in 2008, got a crappy sales job, went back to school, did unpaid internships and finally in late 2010 got a full-time job. These kids expect instant results and fell entitled to be making $60,000 when they take off their cap and gown.

  • CBond

Pretty sure that’s their point. There are no jobs to “get.”

  • Practical

Believe me when the public sector unions are involved, the only right they want is the right to more money. It is how they became so powerful, they settled everything when politicians caved to the bottom line. There may be some idealists in the group, but they will gladly become the satanic demon that they despise for the right price. Now that a few elected officials dare to say No,or to question the fiscal responsibility of more debt for taxpayers to bear, the unions resort to name calling.Look at all the fat jokes about Christie in NJ.Public unions want the only fat cat in the room to be themselves.

I keep wondering what the precise agenda of the protestors is – when will they know when they’ve “won” and can go home? What – exactly – are they trying to accomplish, and what would their victory look like? When I was in college, we had protests of “End the War in Vietnam” and “End the Draft.” You could agree or disagree – but you knew what exactly was wanted.

  • HUGH BLOW

how can you comment that bloomberg doesnt need his $$ and that its not fair that he has it? He EARNED it the AMERICAN way. wake up

  • Janet

I keep wondering what the precise agenda or goals of the protestors is – what would constitute a victory? When will they say – “We accomplished what we set out to do and can now go home.” Would it be bringing Goldman Sachs execs to trial in a federal court building? Or what? When I was in college, the protests were “End the war in Vietnam” and “End the draft” – concrete, measurable goals. These protests are too scattershot and vague to be really effective.

  • 21

Just because someone is young doesn’t mean that they have no job, and it certainly doesn’t mean that they’re any less aware than you are. I’ve been working and paying taxes since I was 16, and I moved out of “mommy and daddy’s basement” when I was 17. Get off your pedestal, you old fart.

This week is the holiday of yom kippur, the day of atonement. The story of how Jonah told the inhabitants of Nineveh to return to God and how they repented is read on this holiday. God, the Creator and Sustainer of the world, provides for us but we have to trust in God, pray to Him, and follow His ways.America needs to return to God-this applies to the protesters, Wall Street, the government, and everyone else. Look up at the seven laws of Noah on the internet and see what God wants from us.

  • ann

When a lot of people’s ancestors came to America, they were poor but worked hard to achieve.A big problem is that young people are encouraged to go to college and get white collar jobs instead of working blue collar jobs. Then, a lot of blue collar jobs have been shipped off to China and other countries and there is a lack of training in blue collar jobs and too many regulations for businesses to succeed and labor unions that are always asking for more pay so that jobs become scarcer. factories to Also, everyone thinks that all the new technology is a necessity, instead of saving money.

  • JUST US

Do not despair. Think of Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ. In Matthew 21:12, he entered the temple and drove out all who were buying and selling there. Wall Street was built on hallowed ground…baptized by the blood of those buried there. It’s about time the present day money changers tables were tossed.

  • Jeanne

I was thinking the same thing. Protesting is legal; making terroristic threats is a crime. Why haven’t these criminals been arrested?

  • M.M.O’Reilly Jr.

These young folks don’t wish to be in debt all of their lives as this
country from college tuition on makes them never catching up
with that debt, then as they get old like me that debt from all the
BS we have to live with is handed down to them from again from their parents
when they die. Thats why this movement is growing but it needs direction.
You can’t shut down Wall Street that idea is idiotic, you can change the laws.

do the protesters realize that, BESIDES GE (and the unions) which will cost the government money in the end, the tax payers have actually BENEFITTED from the bailout. Everyone, except GE, has or is in the process of paying back TARP money. Plus the taxpayers made a profit. Maybe they should ask their union buddies why GE is the only one that we are long on? I’m sorry to see someone’s solution is to bring down the New York Stock Exchange website Monday. Many of the OWS supporters, including the teachers and unions, have their retirement money tied up in there (the stock market). Even if what they have left isn’t much, it is what they have. Seems odd to me and rather short-sighted to cause further financial problems to the people they are claiming to help and speak for.

i really am tired of this. i was unemployed for almost 2 years. yes, i sent out tons of resumes, i networked, and ultimately had to relocate back to ny. i helped care for an elderly parent with alzheimer’s. i worked as a seaonal worker in retail to make some money, and i volunteered at a hospital which ultimately led to a job. chanting, obstructing traffic is not yielding positive results. are you registered to vote? vote & make a difference. don’t interfere with those of us trying to get to our jobs, our homes.

How about calling them severly ‘MISINFORMED’???? But, I know what you are saying, just saw a young woman say ‘It’s ridiculous, my mother pays more in taxes that Walmart!” Wow, didn’t know we had the child of a multi mult BILLIONAIRE! According to Forbes, Walmart paid nearly $6 billion in taxes to the U.S. last year. Don’t go on rumors people! Anyhoo… I do not blame anything on the banks or wallstreet, nope, they just are making money on what they LEGALLY CAN. Where people should be marching? Head on down south a few hundred miles, start on either Independence or Constitution Aves, protesting at the buildings there marked Senate offices or House of Rep. offices, then head on over to FIRST AND EAST, the CAPITOL, where everything is VOTED ON. After spending adequate time there, (and please make sure they are in session, they do take EVERY 3RD WEEK OFF and GO HOME to their Congressional District or Senate office). After that, MARCH, MARCH, MARCH on over to 1600 PENNSLYVANIA Ave, doesn’t matter if the president is there or not, Mr. Obama will get wind of it. Okay, maybe not all of these people are responsible for the state everything, but it is THE OFFICES that put the bill up, VOTED ON IT, AND SIGNED IT INTO LAW. Everything that Wall Street, the Banks do, they do it because they legally can. And they legally can, because a law was written or TAKEN AWAY.And NOT JUST THE LAST 10 YEARS!!!!!!!!

It is interesting how Tea Party rallies were seen as a threat to our country and social stability and cauldrons of violence etc. etc. but no one seems to care about this unrest. Every one of those losers who is in college and skipping courses should be failed – not because they missed the course but because their incoherent and irrational ideals are so devoid of critical thought that you’d be saving them the money of wasting it on inherently stupid children. And the cops should bust their heads up and show them that even legal idiocy deserves nothing more than a beatdown like their absent parents should have given them years ago, before they developed such infantile delusions. Communism and Marxism failed miserably in our own lifetimes, resulting not just in loss of economic power but millions of lives, and yet these dolts still think that there is an endless well of economic resources that can give them everything they “want” for free. No work, no risk, no nothing. You crush Wall Street and you get nothing but more unemployment and less growth. And with the “rich” targeted for destruction, the Nanny Government they love so much will have no revenue for their entitlements. Heck, why have jobs at all if they think the government can provide them or force others to provide a “living wage” without any merit on their part but only their consumptive, self-absorbed lunacy. And people castigate the Tea Party for speaking of fiscal responsibility from a middle class perspective? And finally, where is the diversity? 99% are white, white, white. So much for that baloney. At least minorities have the good sense to either work or look for work rather than sitting in a park wasting everyone’s time.

What does that have to do with you? Horrible things happened to lots of people of many different races in the past, we make sure they don’t happen again. Is everything Aristotle and Plato wrong simply because they owned slaves and believed slaves incapable of thought? No they were simply products of a different time. The protesters are out there for themselves. They see what the wealthy have and they want the government to take it from them at the point of a gun. It really is that simple.

You want it? Earn it. Equal opportunity, not equality.

New York was purchased from the North American natives by the Dutch who had a very good relationship with the natives. The British then took over New York in a bloodless invasion. New York then joined the colonies in overthrowing the British. New York was not built by enslaved Africans, it was actually one of the first states to emancipate slaves even before America was a country.

Maybe tuition would not skyrocket if the expectations of incoming students (and their parents) were a bit more reasonable. For example, maybe you live in 70′s style dorm with a roommate, share a communal shower/bath with your floor, and go to a cafeteria. Instead many schools offer living in a suite with a private bath, and going to the multi-optional food court experience with Asian Fusion, Sushi bar, Vegetarian, Low Carb, Kosher, Mexican, Thai, dessert bar, etc… From there you can work it off at the high-tech rec center with the new rock climbing wall, salt water pool and masseuse. It’s ridiculous. College has become a spa experience.

I agree with many people on here. Try listeining to Pr. I work, I have worked out of my house since I was 13. I agree that we Americans are lazy and refuse to take jobs “beneath us.” But what is funny are people who make those anti- immigrant comments who, thank god, take those jobs. Yes maybe it is that too many pepole believe that they deserve to go to college and get middle class and higher jobs. That is more of a population thing, Yes maybe stop having so many kids (that most of really can’t afford, nor can the earth).

I am with these people, to an extent. The wall st occupiers do not support Anonymous and I guess nor do i (If they shut down the haliburton ok, but the person below is right to say that many pensions and regular people invest). And Ed is right that this is about the 1%, not their minons who make less than 300,000 and do not have any chilrdren.

And working girl, again I work, always have, and put myself through college and graduate school, but I still have a right to complain and see the injustcies (especially when those before us, many of them went to CUNY for free, had better education and were able to become CEOs without any degree, in some cases). My main stife is with the military industrial complex (remember many of those demonstrainnig have had friends fighting- for college tuition-for most of their lives) and bailing out the 1% who had nice warm homes and did not give a S*()&^%$#@t about the homes lost and the animals given up because people lost their jobs or their homes due to bailing them out. Oh and a person here said the other day that coporations don’t owe us anything. Yes, you are right and we don’t owe them anything. If they fail, they fail. Not, oh let’ s help you even though what you did was a massive ponzi scheme and you gambled, which means you bet it, you may loose.

How about using some of this “energy” to actually start a business, rather than whining about how one hasn’t been handed to you straight out of college? Do you think that most RICH people got rich by sit-ins? I imiagine that in your minds that people get rich by STEALING from others. Funny, but the people I know got rich through hard work and sacrifice. Give that a try.

Yes you Matt Parker have a very unbiased website.

I agree with your sentiment but unfortunately it’s abput 50%

  • horseshrink

How sad. Same old song. Malleable, gullible, naive, underinformed discontents.

Though this does not serve the economy one whit, it does serve those willing to ride a wave like this into power.

If the protesters truly feel a central governmental distribution of resources is preferable to a market economy, they should feel free to move to Venezuela or Cuba. No doubt they will be happier there.

These people are costing New York city millions in NYPD overtime.Any Unions that march this is a reason there will be no money for your raises or pension all this overtime for stupid protest like this in a economy like this is just plain stupid just like this protest.

  • Gangrene

There are jobs I see plenty of postings online of companies hiring, but people don’t want to do those jobs because they are too good for them and they don’t make enough money to keep up with the jones’. I am 25 and I am proud to live in this country, and not a fool like so many others my age. I am glad that I have pride and earn what I want and not expect it from someone who sacrificed his blood sweat and tears.

  • ironage

Because…..in Sec. Napolitano’s world….the TRUE threats to America is are returning military veterans….white males in particular.

  • Earl

I look terrible in flourescent light and am going to open an incandescent speak-easy for protesters only!

Down with whitey (the bulb, that is).

I have owned a business for 17 years that I run out of a conspicuous large brick building with forklifts and trucks coming in and out all day. During that time NOT ONE PERSON HAS EVER KNOCKED ON MY DOOR AND ASKED IF WE WERE HIRING.

How do you think the rich got rich? How do you think I got rich? I’m nowhere near Wall Street.

If any of my grandchildren were to walk out of college..if their parents didn’t nail them..I would.

  • gmasquire

Take a shower, brother! You might feel better.

  • ironage

I don’t understand this. I could have SWORN that Sec. Napalitano said a few months ago….that the TRUE threat of terrorism in America was returning military veterans….particularly white males….who had anti-government views. She didn’t say anything about a bunch of spoiled hippie-wannabe’s who regurgitate what their Marxist professors have been teaching them. What gives?

  • EastSideCholo

    Laugh now. Cry later.

  • Mr. Bean

These kids may as well leave college for their playtime on Wall St. They obviously aren’t learning anything worthwhile in the classroom. It would be interesting to know the number of “liberal arts” majors vs the number of science and math majors among the demonstrators. I bet the liberal arts kids make up 95 percent of the demonstrators.

  • Drano

“Try listeining to Pr. Richard Wolfe, a marixst (OMG a commie! ya better run! – I can’t believe how much my grandparents generation’s ignorance still infects us)”

You forgot to quote the murder toll of the commies since it started. It is 130,000,000 souls murdered by commies to take power and keep it. The murder continues today in China and Vietnam and Tibet.

  • Cribster

    I agree!

College is immensely overrated, they are turning into nothing more than indoctrination centers.

I couldn’t afford college, I didn’t expect anyone to pay for it. Instead I got a job and have been working ever since and thankfull, I’m doing better then most college graduates.

  • gmasquire

The union workers and teachers who are rushing to help these anarchists better stop and think where their retirements are sitting. Do you think that these pigs will stiop at just rich peoples’ money?

Liberals control the colleges and tuition rates are skyrocketing, but let’s re-elect obama.
Liberals control fannie and freddie, and are responsible for millions “owning” homes they can’t afford, but let’s re-elect obama.
Liberals control the unions, and businesses are moving overseas in droves to escape regulation and ludicrous pensions, but let’s re-elect obama.
Liberals have controlled the government since 2006 and the debt and deficit have ballooned, but let’s re-elect obama.

I think it’s pretty cool that they can wipe wall street off the internet and hopefully take the institution out as it will cost trillions if they can succeed with it.
This is scaring everyone as it is terrorism for all intents and purposes but it sounds like it will happen.
We are one messed up country as when they do that marshal law will go into effect and everyone will get hurt.

  • t daniel

college professors should be teaching their students so they become educated enough to get jobs and not “encouraging them to take the day and join the protest”

  • TeaRunner

Your tuition is going up, your professors (who are paid with your tuition) want you to go protest Wall Street. So, you go protest Wall Street.

Ever stop to wonder maybe you’re wasting your money?

Or, does this all seem perfectly logical to you?

It’s ok, we all know your answer to both those questions. Go protest, get arrested, smoke some more dope, and enjoy yourselves. If you’re down there you’re not wasting my time interviewing you.

  • Simon Jester

The term inversion applies here. These college clods have been brain-infected by Communist/Marxists “professors” in their colleges. Tuition has increased at double-digit rates for decades, with leftist administrators and “professors” getting ridiculous salaries and perks, while putting the “Stupids” the teach deeply in debt. Then they tell these babies to go into the street to take down society. The solution is to drag these leftist administrators and “professors” out of their comfortable offices, interrogate them to isolate the true leftists among them, AND SHOOT THEM ON THE SPOT. Society won’t miss them and America will be a better, freer place.

  • Lou Ann Watson

let them all gather and arrest everyone…then they can be tracked. once this nitwit is out of the white house, they can round them all up and put them to work building roads and bridges for a liveable wage. let’s see how patriotic they are then…

“One of the most important lessons Dad taught us was not to feel like victims. He never felt like a victim; he never expressed one ‘victim’ attitude the whole while I knew him. It was his inner self-determination. He just never had that attitude, so we didn’t have that attitude.” — Herman Cain

  • Bobnews

Isn’t is funny the professors are telling these kids to go protest about their tuition that over pays the Marxists professors. Are these kids dense or stoned?

  • Denny David

Agitated socialists. The democrats the unions have greased all of the years are beginning to turn their backs on them and they don’t know what to do. Teachers have failed the children putting their own paychecks above math and science. Government paychecks are dwindling, more budget cuts are coming, the gig is up, time to get a real yob man, don’t complain, if you want a government paycheck don’t live in America, maybe France or Greece will take you. Stop whining spoiled brats. If you don’t like capitalism, then move. You don’t have to be rich to understand capitalism is the best system going.

  • patmurphy1965

In Alabama they are paying $100.00 per day just to harvest sweet potatoes. There are many jobs available; this generation is just not willing to work. The American culture I respect, includes a bit sweat and toil… Don’t be spoiled and lazy!!

  • jetdriver

Most of those students probably could not pass Econ 101 – it is a shame u have to get older before u get wiser. Wonder how many of these students have parents are on some type of gov. assistance program? There is no work ethic in this country – just look at the waistlines of the people around you. There are millions of jobs available in all 50 states, but there not the plush jobs these crybabies want. Please all u fat lazy ass people who don’t like hearing the truth – save your blah blah blah responses for someone who gives a s###.

  • Yuppiepunk

The older generation has robbed its youth of their future. The last 20+ years have been huge corporate giveaways (2 wars, cutting taxes for the investment class, giving away billions to financial institutions) and now they wonder why the youth is angry. Kids have to pay 10x what their parents did for a diploma only to find that the jobs have all been shipped overseas so you could buy cheaper product at the discount chain.

i go to the University of Southern Maine. it costs almost $10,000 JUST to live in a cinderblock cube and eat LAXATIVE infused cafeteria food for 8 months. thats a load. add tuition to that and its outrageous. this is a state school mind you, no spa here lady. no asian low carb fusion, and kids are still up to their face in debt.
its an issue across the board, you cant blame the dessert bar.
when the 1st percentile is making 1M times more than even the 2nd, let alone the majority, and the government turns a blind eye to the money our great nation hemorrhages to foreign banks, wars etc…whatever, im just a liberal arts student who wants a world worth living in.

Just curious, when they are all done being stupid, who is going to clean up the trash they will leave behind?

  • JOE1CR

    You got that right !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • GLL

The irony is delicious, Wall St. privatizes their profits and socializes their losses as their political sock puppets in both parties make sure they are never held accountable for crashing the economy as they get upset that they cannot reward themselves with billions of dollars in X-MAS bonuses this year and they wonder why people are out to “get” them. Yes, the leftist mob is somewhat confused on logical reasoning, but they are definitely tapping into the populist desire of the average American to clean out the stables of corruption on Wall St. and DC. Wake up boys, it is only going to get worse if you continue to practice business as usual.

  • horseshrink

Wow. You for real? If you can normally spell, then that ganja ain’t helpin’ you do anything but wait around for government $$ to fall in your lap.

  • Anna

Vince, they ARE happy, don’t you see? Their silence implicates them. Divide and conquer. All this is happening to take our eyes off of the Obama administration and what they’re trying to do. It is an act of despiration. What better way than to have the socialistic professors at our once-great universities turn our kids against their parents? However, there is one thing the O. administrations didn’t count on. US!!!!! Us, fighting them every step of the way. We are stronger and more in number. They’ll never divide US….wayward kids will always be among us. Pity them.

  • They take up space

The “movement” will loose its steam once the temps drop and the snow starts. Just a bunch of lazy commies. They offer vague complaints but offer no solutions nor do they want to contribute sweat equity to resolve this poor economy. Kumbyya fools

  • desertmick

Perhaps we can make chicken soup out of this chicken S#%t.
The irrational escalation in College tuition is a manifestation of the Gov’t-Academic Complex, a combine far more insidious than the much touted Military-Industrial Complex.
Wake up kids! Those effete, hugely over-paid professors that send in teaching assistants to mouth leftist platitudes while they back-scratch their hommies in gov’t has resulted in student loans being non-dischargeable in Bankruptcy.
Wake up and smell the coffee, you useful idiots.

  • Ramon Leigh

The one thing all these low-IQ goofballs truly believe is that their problems aren’t
the result of anything they’ve done. In some cases, perhaps not, but if they think “corporate greed” had anything to do with their plight, then one can say that they
haven’t the vaguest conception of how an economy functions. Sort of like Obama.

  • Adam

These poor, misguided, kids are swayed by the romantic view of “standing up to the man” or the age old “civil disobedience”. They don’t know what they are protesting against. How can you stand up to Wall Street and use your iPhone/Android at the same time? You don’t see a hunger strike inside a McDonald’s.

The fact the Teamsters/AFL-CIO have to bus in hired hands to attend this pathetic gathering of kids shows you it has no umph on it’s own merit. How did bussing in hands for the Wisconsin thing go for ‘em? Nice try, cute, but a 1/20th of the actual grass roots action of the Tea Party, which has lasted a couple years now.

  • beth

Thank you Tricia, the list of demands is absurd and never will come to fruition. The cost the NYPD has incurred due to a bunch of unemployed hippies is another reality that those with negative common sense just don’t get, that money has to come from somewhere, I think they should take it from the welfare checks of those occupying morons. Holder wouldn’t do a thing, he himself is a criminal and Nappy, well – I will bite my tongue about he/she.

  • John Gulbunnie

Sure Tricia…just as soon as the Michael Jackson trial ends. Don’t be so thick that you fail to realize the media doesn’t care about you nor want you to be educated on important issues that affect you directly. Have some fluff instead.

  • Adam

My point exactly. Remember after the Prophet Al Gore had his concerts all over the world for Global Warming? Those parasites dumped more trash and used more energy than they could save in 10 lifetimes. Again, they have no clue what they are protesting: as long as it gets them out of class.

Not a single college kid would give up a $500K/year job over this sad march. Joke.

You’re not the 99 percent. I am. My brothers and sisters are. And we see the occupy movement for what it is. It’s doubling down on the mindless hope and change crap that brought us this far. Do us all a favor and stay the hell away from the voting booth next year.

  • Lou Stoole

Yeah…why lean on a shovel and do practically nothing if you can lean on a Gulfstream V and do practically nothing. But you’ll need a lot more of American money to do it. Maybe you could raise everyone’s debit card fees or speculate on oil and drive up gas prices. Too though for that small mind of yours? Don’t worry…Dancing With The Stars will be on later and you’ll watch just ’cause you wanna see Chaz Bono lose.

  • Tvljay

Your comment is ABSOLUTELY SPOT ON! In fact, that is the first time I have ever seen someone else post this observation that I have been saying for years.

As a public school teacher it is embarrassing to admit that NONE of my “union brothers and sisters” recognize this truth. They are totally unaware that THEIR pension and retirement is COMPLETELY dependent on the success of the corporations that make up evil Wall Street

  • Truth

It has EVERYTHING to do with me. My ancestors’ very life blood is in that ground.

I work. I pay taxes. I’m doing well. But unlike my RICH WHITE relatives who inherited the fortune of our white great, great, great, great, great grandfather, I got nothing as the great, great, great, great, great grandchild of the African woman he enslaved, raped, and impregnated. The black kids went the way of their mother and had no legal claims to their white father’s wealth. The very wealth he made off their backs.

What you reap, you will sow. What goes around, comes around. It’s karma. The FREE LAND & FREE LABOR they thought they were getting… well, it’s time to pay the piper.

America’s check is still coming back insufficient funds…though…not for too much longer.

I just want what’s due. I just want what’s right. This system has been ROTTEN and unfair from it’s inception. It’s time to install an equitable system not based on exploitation and greed.

It doesn’t have to come via the barrel of a gun. It can come via a change of heart.

I’ve had check boxers working next to me that wrote in 100% Ebonics that could not read or write…and polished their nails as I did all the work.

Inside Wall Street we have people who make this country work every day. They are far from perfect, but they are infinitely smarter than The Messiah and his evil minions who are flooding this country with socialism, communism and extreme stupidism. The only way that The Messiah wins in November 2012 is if the stupid people get out the vote. The obvious way to handle that would be a “smart test,” where you ask a would be voter to answer a few questions:
    * A cow makes what sound? (Hint – the answer is “moooo” as in “mooooove out of the way Messiah.”
    * 2 + 2 = what? (Hint – there really is a right answer – and if you want to vote, you should know what that answer is.)
    * George Washington’s last name was what?

If you can’t answer these questions, your vote should not count.

I seem to have graduated from the University of Texas without a debt to my name. I was from a lower middle class family and I got no scholarships. How is it that these people are so debt ridden where I was not?
Oh, yeah! I worked my butt off – 68 hours a week – in summer construction jobs, elbow -to -elbow with illegal aliens and current and former felons. I delivered goods and tended bar and welded steel part time during the school year until I finally got a degree. Got a job in a totally different field, worked hard for 33 years and now I make a quite comfortable salary, have an adequate savings for retirement and children in other top-notch schools.
Don’t try to tell me you can’t get a job. Go out and compete, like I did. Employers will immediately recognize intelligence and work ethic and you will be promoted over the illegals quickly, especially if you studied Spanish in high school.

The real threat of terrorism Not only returning veterans but Tea PArty members as well!!! Ironically not one tea party member was ever arrested or accused of disobedience. All rallies were with the permit legally obtained as well as liability insurance that was required was paid with the funds from personal donations!!!

The more attention these jerks get the more they will carry one.

They will get tired out. ignore them.

I heard a few of them over the weekend got a room at the Millenium for $138.00.
Oh what a little rain and a cool breeze can do.

  • Jim from Boston

    Tricia,

Napolitano? Holder? Who do you think is behind all of these “Occupy” protests?
This is all part of the Obama reelection campaign. Obama is the one stoking the flames of class warfare and this is what it leads to. Note all of the “usual suspects” getting involved. Obama now seems to have no chance of winning a traditional reelection effort so he is reverting to type. Our community organizer-in-chief is in full flower now.

Goatee…check, bad tats…check, tribal nose and ear piercings…check, worn out drum from Phish concert… check, no job…check, goatee… check. Hey dude let protest! Those of us who have jobs and have paid our dues are just serving the beast, right?

The federal Reserve has It’s own police force, why? Why were people given money for McMansions who had no jobs? Why is NY backed up in processing foreclosed homes for 10+ years which has stalled new home sales?

    Pathetic losers.

  • Sanity

These kids are Obama supporters and don’t even seem to realize that Goldman Sachs and Obama are in cahoots. They were his largest donor and he has paid many of them back.

Another observation is that many are upset about school tuition. They should be protesting their college about that – not Wall Street who has nothing to do with tuition costs. Useful idiots.

  • Tvljay

The unions obviously DO NOT want their sheople to know that the pension of all members is invested in Wall Street Corporations. Union elites (and the Democratic Party) depend on their members thinking that THEY are the ones who provide them with their benefits when in fact our “evil” system of capitalism is the true engine that creates their wealth.

  • Corrupt fdny

Rip Steve Jobs. We don’t like big corporations but we loved you

Indeed! I too lost my job. It became pretty obvious very quickly that I wasn’t getting what I had before, so I reinvented myself and did something different that will pay better money than I ever made. And I was making amazing money believe me. Fast forward 2 1/2 years. My business is taking off. As of the end of July, I doubled my business from all of 2010, and it’s not even the end of the year yet!

These idiots that are carrying on, not working, not going to college, but camping out for some ridiculous protest are losers with a capital “L”. Get off your butts, losers! Stop expecting a freakin’ handout! Weasels.

I don’t understand this “student walkout” crap. It reminds me of the ’60s and the so-called “student strikes”. Strike against what? You’re paying for those classes, you’re the only ones who lose if you don’t go. When I taught at a university and the students would go on “strike”, I told them, fine, I’m still getting paid to teach and we’re having class whether you are here or not, and you are still responsible for the material. Sometimes I would spring a pop quiz on a “strike day”. Anyone who didn’t show got a zero, and tough luck on them. Word got around fast, don’t “strike” that guy’s class.

  • brassia

And paying very well, some are making close to a million plus benefits, fully paid HC, trips all over the world!!!
And they are encouraging the students to participate in the rally???
The professors are the same hated rich feeding on hard working parents who have to mortgage thier houses, dipping in 401k to provide education to those ingrads who are clueless meat at thoes rallies!!!

They might not have the right goal in mind but I support these movements.

I support free markets and capitalism. Wall St supports corporate welfare, bailouts, and golden parachutes.

  • littlekittie

Are you for real??? I lost my job in 2008. It was a FANTASTIC job, which I loved. And believe me, I made great money. Well, I got laid off, just like millions of other people. As my savings were dwindling, rapidly, it became painfully apparent that I wasn’t going to get the same job for the same money anytime soon. So, I reinvented myself. It didn’t cost me a nickel. But, I thought very carefully about what to do and I did it.

Fast forward 2 1/2 years. I’m beginning to do well. What I’m doing now will end up paying better than I ever had done before. And yes, I employ a couple of people. As my business does better and better, I will employ more. So, according to you, I must be one of those greedy people who just doesn’t understand the issues our country is facing. Really?? I don’t think the people I’ve hired, in a rough economy, who are able to support themselves and pay their own bills because of MY business will quite agree with you.

Get off your butt, figure out what to do, and DO IT.

I’m ready to start my own protest. STOP THE ENABLEMENT = END THE ENTITLEMENT.

Will they realize they are just capitalists while spewing their hatred for the rest of the folks out there trying to make a living? These folks are proof that liberalism is a mental disorder!

  • the historian

Paul Evans: New York City was actually one of the most enslaved places in colonial America; in fact it was the second most enslaved colonial city and slavery did not end in New York until July 4, 1827. The prevalence of slavery accounts for the African Burial Ground National Monument (nps.gov/afbg/) the cemetery of 10-20,000 free and enslaved Africans from 1640′s-1790′s. They are celebrating the 20th anniversary of their rediscovery right now, this week. Slavery was present in the first 1-2 years of New Amsterdam and it was enslaved people who built our city, including the wall which wall street’s name recalls. Wall Street and water street was the site of the city’s slave market for over 50 years in the 1700s. I think this topic is actually exhaustively covered by better historians than me, so I’ll just repeat you, “if you are going blather about history and how it is on your side, at least know it)

As for Dutch/Native American relations, you might want to know about Kieft’s War. Look it up! It was an unprovoked war against native americans that nearly wiped out the dutch. anyway, I’d love to hear an answer from you, Paul Evans.

  • Truths1981

Ignorant. The media machine has done a great job of brainwashing you and everyone else here that Capitalism is at fault. It’s not exactly Capitalism when you have corporations in bed with government setting up regulations making it near impossible for competition to give consumers a choice. Ever noticed that there are only 4 or 5 massive investment banks? Only 4 or 5 massive oil companies? etc. Open a book and expand your mind. Free market capitalism is not at fault here but is bearing ALL the blame. Sorry chuck, when you have corporations and government colluding together, that’s called Corporatism: the domination of politics by the interests of business corporations.

  • Brassia

You are CLUELESS!!!!!DOWN with the unions- they are the reason of the destruction of many american industries!!!!

So now the unions, professors, college youth bring Greece and Great Britain to our country? This is what you get when you elect a community organizer. This is what he did in Chicago and now he brings it nationwide. He thinks this will get him reelected?

Obama/unions/George Soros organized this to take the focus off of Obama’s failed presidency.
The unions and college professors, and the heads full of mush think this will bring about revolution and communism.

It makes you wonder who is really running this country.
    Obama/Soros/Unions/ college professors that’s who.

When are we as Americans going to kick the unions to the sewer and Soros out of this country?

What a shame. The American citizens continue to allow Soros to stay in the US knowing he is the enemy and is intent on destroying their country.

    Are we that cowardly??

The protestors in NY and other parts of this country are Obama/union/public school led and universities are providing the protesters.

They are being supported by Van Jones and the Tides foundation (George Soros funded).

Today many universities announced they will send more students to the protests. What happened to the education of these students?? What are they being taught? They are taught how to overthrow our government.

This is the education you parents pay for. Liberal/communist professors brainwash your kids and you can see them on the streets protesting.

They have been interviewed by reporters and they come across as the most ignorant bunch of young people with no intelligence or common sense. They hate capitalism and want communism.

Is this what you parents are paying for? Colleges/Universities are turning your children into socialists/communists WHILE YOU PARENTS FOOT THE BILL?? They are turning your own children against you.

Wake up MOM & DAD!! Wake up fellow Americans. You are watching the next generation being brainwashed by leftist colleges and used by communist Unions.

The protesters need to be ignored but the news media, which is in the bag for Obama will keep this to the forefront as long as possible.

BTW: This is only going to get worse. Obama the wanna be dictator will see to it.

The protestor/students need sleeping bags but don ‘t want to buy them because it means using the capitalist system they hate so much.

How will they get those sleeping bags? They want folks to donate the sleeping bags to them. They want freebies.

Parents if your kids are involved in this protest grab your heads full of mush and put your foot down and drag them out of this. You have the right. You are paying for their education and best of all YOU ARE THEIR PARENTS………..NOT THE PROFESSORS……..YOU ARE THE PARENTS.

  • John

Isn’t it suspicious that all demonstrations are spreading everywhere else, but not in DC, and you know why- because they were planned for a long time and organized by no other than Obama and his minions…soon enought even clueless you will be able to see what is up his sleeve

A corporation like Walmart actually doesn’t pay taxes. It collects them from its customers and passes hemt through to the government. Every cent they paid came from a customer. Nowhere else. $6 Billion in taxes? That’s six billion from the pockets of their customers.

  • Dennis

Those professors who are encouraging students to demonstrate against high tuition costs should take a cut in their pay and benefits in order to reduce the burden on their students.

  • Rick

These protesters can go to Cuba or Greece and have everything they want. I’d donate more in taxes so we can fund their one way trips.

It’s all being orchestrated by the White house. All the usual suspects are present; i.e., regressives (aka liberal progressives; e.g., ACORN, dems, unions (SEIU, UAW, AFL-CIO, AFGE, AFSCME), weak-kneed RINOs (redundant)); do as I say, not as I do limousine liberal; minds of mush college and high school students being taught by those that can’t find a job in the private sector not including private schools. There is nothing at all progressive about their agenda; it is all regressive; i.e., tearing down that which has made America great and successful as a country and as individuals (except for those who believe they are entitled).

The question was – why do they charge so much money – the answer- just because they can!!!!

Just like our halthcare insurances and med . bills- we have to pay for all those who “would take jobs American’s wouldn’t do” as well as take our money as well!!!

Please help us stop corporate greed!!Petition to Oppose the Spectra Pipeline!

Sign the petition online! Get your neighbors to sign the petition!

Spectra Energy wants to build a major natural gas pipeline expansion to New York City that will run through the heart of Jersey City. Jersey City & NYC will bear tremendous risks with no reward, all for the benefit of Spectra Energy shareholders!

Natural gas pipelines are prone to high risk of leaks that are released as either fine mists of toxic spray or result in fires and explosions that may do significant damage to property and life. We cannot let this happen in our own backyard! If you have seen the documentary GASLAND then you know the environmental and health risks in drilling for natural gas.

We don’t have much time to fight this. There is GAS PIPELINE: PUBLIC MEETING OCTOBER 19TH @ 7PM at Ferris High School in Jersey City. This will be the last time for us to voice our opposition regarding the proposed gas pipeline headed our way.

For more information please go to nogaspipeline.org

Please help us stop corporate greed!!! We need people to come out in numbers to beat this thing! We need to people to pitch in and help us get the message out.

The world financial collapse is banking debt, caused be 1980s deregulation, big business corruption greed and criminality. We the public around the world have bailed these crooks out because unfortunately we need banks. We need honest banks not these current bunch of Republican backers. If we have to bail crooks out there should be conditions attached. This is our money not theirs, they have blown their own along with ours. No bonuses for fraudsters and some should be in jail until they have paid their debt to us. The GOP is in with these crooks so while they are in office there is little chance of any recompense from the financial fraudsters. Wall Street blockage is necessary because the politicians and media are all in it together.
The Republican backers all have health care insurance. Why should they care who lives or dies in America. They blew up the economy, ship jobs overseas and bought themselves beach homes. The GOP – stands for the Grand Obstructionist Party! Now – GOPers are sprinkling open bottles of champagne over the Wall St protesters! It’s a shame….I am glad to be Liberal!!! I like to sleep at night!

I’m with you man. I am 25 as well , and I couldn’t agree more. I have been deployed twice. The first time I was deployed it happened when I thought I wouldn’t be able to finish a semester of college. I dropped my classes, and in addition to my second shift job at a large shipping company, I took up a job with one of the biggest producers of farm equipment third shift. I have also filled my time with jobs that may not have paid terrific but it was work. Since I was 14 I had some kind of job, and felt fantastic about it. Now, returning to college I will be a 25 year old junior, and I don’t know if I can go back there. Those places are so out of touch with reality it is disgusting. I say let these people protest until they die. Don’t give in to terrorism.

Now we are fall about finance. Everything has been reduced to the lowest common denominator for the benefit of the private federal reserve, too big to exist banks, and wall street.

Do you really think some bureaucrat in DC is going to make your life better than if you were to keep the money yourself and decide how to spend it? The reason healthcare and education are so expensive is because they are government subsidized. If they were not and priced according to market demands, they would have to be affordable and people would behave more responsibly if they knew that only they were paying for these things.

The Wall Street Banksters bankrolled 0bama’s 2008 campaign, and they got more than their money’s worth.

“Atlas Shrugged” was written in the ’50′s by a woman who grew up in revolutionary Russia.

Can’t say I’m in love with Ayn Rand’s writing style, but we are on a frighteningly accurate trajectory to her depiction of a dystopian society.

And so, a bunch of “looters” gather together on Wall Street to complain about unfairness and lack of opportunity … and that they can’t help it. They’re just victims of the luckier, greedier people.

i think it’s called sarcasm…take an english literature course like those college students then you can understand and be on their level

These are tough times for everyone but instead of crying foul and looking to have your problems solved by others, try doing it yourself. This country was founded upon the belief that anyone can make something of themselves. The idea is not that you place blame for your faults on another but instead that you pull yourself up when you fall and keep on trying.

Don’t get me wrong in part I agree with some of that which is being protested. Tuition is extremely high, I know because I am currently paying it, but like anything in this world you have to weight the risk of taking on debt with the rewards of investing in your future. One thing I am not about to do though is walk down to my lending company and complain about the fact that they are providing me with the ability to further my education in hopes of advancing in the world.

And I am sorry but does no one see the hypocrisy in complaining about tuition yet being more than willing to walk out of the classes essentially forgoing that money? In the future perhaps you should try to do something productive with that time. These may be novel concepts but you could try attending your courses, studying so that you pass them, or perhaps even get a part time job, like I have, to help lessen the loans you have to take.

Yes the ability to protest and speak your mind is a fundamental right in the United States but I will give much more credence to one when it is done by those who are actively trying to better themselves, not those just looking for someone else to point the finger at.

  • davidhp

Unfortunately you forgot the oath you took to defend the constitution while allows free speech. Protest is not terrorism, crashing the economy for the profits of the few is.

Which loosers the fascists who support the corporate elitists?

  • littlekittie

Hi Keith – I started by finding investors who would purchase foreclosed homes, and pay for the fixup of those homes. I hired a contractor and sub-contractors, did the rehab of the homes, then got them sold, and made a profit. The profit was very small at first, and the whole process was scary, too. But everyone got paid, and the investors made their money, and I made some, too. As I figured out how to do the same quality of work, but be more efficient, the profits grew, too. From there, I’ve added the service of offering client remodels (kitchens, bathrooms and basements), and have been very busy providing that service to clients for the last year. Both of those things have grown into a nice business for me. It’s hard work, but very rewarding. After making this happen, I am a firm believer in reinvention of oneself!

it’s not about making a living, it is about the fact that the WEALTH GAP between the top 1% and the other 99% is as big as it was during the robber baron days, and that leads to an inability for anyone who is not in the top 1% to have any political voice in our democracy. If you want to run for president, you need so much money to compete that you HAVE to be friendly to Wall Street. That is NOT democracy.
It is about POWER, not just WEALTH.

  • Edgar Sousa

Do you think these students will connect the fact that their college tuition is so high because of worthless professors who are tenured and make tons, but don’t have to produce. Students think it through. Who is really gouging you? It is the professors.

Best recruting tool for The Tea Party – Just one look and maybe a little listen and you will know why the Tea Party is around.

Its called totalitarian like government. When the goverment regulates industry to the point that only a few large companies are in each business. That is how the government controles the means of productions.

The large companies like this because they have few competitors and if one should fail (like GM) Uncle Sam is here to bail them out (so they can excert more control over the owners (screw the bondholders and give the company to the Unions).

We don’t want small companies around because it is harder to control 30 or 40 auto companies than 3 or 4.

These children (some are very old) are very much like the Brown shirts of the 30′s. When the violence starts the rest of you will know.

High student debt is not related to Wall Street. It is related to students pursuing degrees in areas such as journalism and English in numbers that are not supported by the job market, rather than in harder ciriculums such as medicine and engineering, where opportunity exists in relative abundance. But that would not suit the agenda of the public school liberal arts community, who have an excess of professors, and who steer too students into their programs to benefit themselves, rather than the students they should support, and the community that supports them.
As to fiscal problems, they are blaming the wrong street. The fiscal problems are caused by an unholy alliance between L Street and Pennsylvania Avenue (Executive branch of the U.S. and the Federal Reserve). The Federal Government borrows money through Treasury debt, then the Fed creates money out of thin air to buy the debt. Magic! No, they are making our money worth less, which causes these students living costs to go up. It is time that these supposedly well-educated individuals wise up and investigate for themselves the root causes of their problems, rather than simply blaming those who their professors who have already sold them out, and like-minded friends tell them to blame. We must recognize the problem before we can solve the problem.

Although you may see plenty of jobs posted. I know alot of people who have applied and nothing has happen. I even applied for jobs TWO YEARS ago and they are still vacant. Jobs in which I am very qualified in education and experience. I think companies post jobs but they are HIRING. This country has been through alot in the last eleven years. There are alot of issues that need to be resolved and these politicians should not be allowed to keep giving the American citizens the run around. They should have a pay cut so they can feel what their constituents is going through. Its easy for a person to have a opinion on something when they are not and have not walked a mile in someone else’s shoes. Our government spent the last eleven years eight of those drilling this country into debt (we were in surplus when Clinton left the office) on other countries when we need to put America first. They forgot about their own country.

Demonstrate at the Capitol or White House. You will find the source(s) of the problems there. Wall Street is only a symbol. The leaders of the big banks are not there, but elsewhere. Does anyone realize that the NYSE is owned by a German company? Five steps would solve the financial crisis: 1. Repeal Obamacare, 2. Declare a tax holiday for companies bringing profits back from offshore-if the $$$s are invested here in plants, people and equipment, 3. Suspend the top 20 new regulations against American Business, 4. Sign the trade treaties with S. Korea, Columbia and Panama (though he harps on it constantly, then have been on the President’s desk until yesterday, 5. Begin drilling in the Gulf of Mexico and Anwar. What’s stopping any or all of those: He sits in the White House!

But if you are going to march in the stree3ts, campaigning for Obama while Wall St and the rich get richer because of their relationship with Obama, I will consider you a fake group

  • jerry988

maybe they should be rounded up and sent to a “reeducation camp”. The survivers will be more then docile.

  • N Y P DrP I G S

My apologies if this was posted here already.

The protestors participating in “Occupy Wall Street” – composed of mostly young adults who call themselves “the 99%” – show no sign of relenting or backing down. Instead, demonstrations continue on a daily basis and have purportedly garnered the support of major unions. Tomorrow, they plan on demonstrating in front of City Hall.
In the foreseeable future, there is a tremendous potential for unprecedented civil unrest in New York City and other major municipalities from coast to coast. The worst case scenario would be all out anarchy, which no one wants.
The protestors have cited corporate greed, political corruption, ending the Federal Reserve, alternative/renewal energy for a clean environment, and jobs. Their cry is, “student loans, diploma, but no living-wage jobs.” They see Corporate America and politicians as those who have not acted as proper stewards but instead as self-servants. The bottom line – “Occupy Wall Street” is about young people with a vision that the American Dream is no longer within their reach – as it was or may have been for their parents. But worst of all, they see a national debt that has mortgaged their future for the sake of supporting a crumbling economy that appears to be in imminent collapse.

“The government is the potent omnipresent teacher. For good or ill it teaches the whole people by its example. Crime is contagious. If the government becomes a lawbreaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy. To declare that the end justifies the means — to declare that the government may commit crimes — would bring terrible retribution.” – U.S. Justice Louis D. Brandeis

The 99% have no voice? Tea Party is part of the 99%. They definitely have some clout. These Wall Street protesters have a good point to make. They just can’t figure out exactly what it is or get everyone on the same page with it. When a cat like George Soros can depose the leadership of nations by assassination and currency manipulation, governments do need to act. Dan, I would agree with you if you could acknowledge the revolving door relationship between Goldman Sachs and the Fed. I think your feeling voiceless is also related to the fact that your congressional representative represents about 700,000 people besides yourself. It makes it tuff to feel “empowered.” That’s the bottom line here, isn’t it?

  • littlekittie

Made a profit off victims?? How myopic. People ARE buying houses, no matter what the media is feeding you. People ARE paying to fix up their own homes, too, no matter what BS you choose to believe. Should we all shrivel up and die because people have lost their homes?

For every defeat there is a victory. When something dies, something else springs up in its place. That’s the way of life. I made a business out of nothing after I lost a job I loved, that paid me very well. And my business now provides a living for me and those who work with me. When my group rehabs and sells a house, it takes a foreclosure off the market, and puts that home back in the hands of homeowner. When we rehab a house, we take what was an eyesore in a neighborhood and turn it into something beautiful again. And when we work with homeowners to redo kitchens, bathroom, basements, additions, etc., it means they feel good about investing in their own homes and neighborhoods.

What we do helps to rebuild value in neighborhoods. And in turn, that attracts new businesses and restaurants and services, so that those who live in the rehabbed neighborhoods have better access to what they need and want. And guess what? That brings in more potential homeowners, too, who will buy and sell, and make money doing so. That’s the free market. That’s how it works. But, I guess it’s “evil” in your whacked out version of the world.

Try growing a spine. Figure out how to make your own place in life. You might be surprised at how good it feels to be self-supporting.

Because in order to minimize expenses (and maximize the probability of having a net profit, which is necessary to stay in business) many US Fortune 500 companies know that skilled labor and tax costs are less expensive internationally. so, we have college kids bitching about student loan debt and staging a walk out where they will not be utilizing the institution that has convinced them that the only way to succeed is by going so far in debt so that they can get the education they need to get a high enough paying job to pay off their student debts, just to find out that they are six figures in the hole and can’t find a job so they are out protesting the very institutions that they would be applying to to receive an income capable of paying off the debt that they have been brainwashed into taking on in the first place to get the jobs that are currently not available.

In so doing, it has effectively exempted the most privileged members of American society from military service, constrained the size of the armed forces, forced the military to pay large bonuses to fill the gaps in its ranks and encouraged Congress to acquiesce in decisions on war and peace without the sort of thorough review that would be carried out for a military operation that affected a broader swath of the population.

“Soldiers, Marines and their families are bearing the whole burden of the war, and 99 percent of the public is disengaged from the war,” Colonel Yingling told me. “The two control mechanisms to control executive ambition — asking the people to supply the blood and treasure for war — are missing.

“I have never heard any political leader ask people to volunteer and fight,” he said. “That is fantastic to me. How can it be that we choose to fight a war but don’t ask people to fight it?

    When do we want it?

You are the type of person that made America great. With your attitude you will go far.Our country was built by hard working people like yourself. These protestors are idiots. They complain about no jobs yet waste their time hanging around causing trouble instead of making good use of their time looking for work. I wish you much success. You are a person of integrity and good character

It would be great if officers would arrest and charge as many as possible. This would give these socialist trooublemakers an established a criminal history which will be visible to any “evil” corporation that they wish to apply after graduation. In other words, they will not get a real job :)

Liberal groups have been coordinating this for the last few months and this is a coordinated effort of their brown shirt leftists which are mainly union thugs and brainwashed students. If you want 90K get a government job. Corporate sector jobs average much less than government jobs, which explain why this nation has steep debt. Liberals’ goal is to deconstruct this country as much as possible so that they can build a socialist nation in its place.

That’s a very important point. The military trains humans to abandon their individuality and sacrifice their lives for the collective. Anything in a uniform is a socialist tool. They merely serve to animate the uniform. A free man does not subordinate himself to such dehumanization.

Why do I think the only thing this protest will accomplish is big bills for city services(trash, sewer, water, NYPD), a lot of missed classes, a few assorted lawsuits, a few babies, a few STD’s, a couple of marriges and separations, deflection of the bungling of the Obama Administration and their skyrocketing debt statistics and, sadly, another Michael Moore movie. The protesters are 60′s wannabes, encouraged by 60′s has-beens. Coming out of your momm’s basement to protest for a better ply of toilet paper is not smart. Protesting a fee that the offiicial YOU elected put in place thru regulation is not smart. In fact, The people who have joined these smelly hippie reruns are thugs and unions an Moveon.org anarchists USING them. Do they not realize they are being used? They are not very smart, so I doubt it. Your typical parasite found sleeping on Wall St voted for the same people who put policies in place that caused the banking mess, the housing mess, the financial mess and used each one to bring further regulation. Want to be smart and protest? Go sleep on Jimmuh Carters’s front lawn. Go sleep in Clintons garage. Go hang out at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave or where ever your Congressional leader hangs his or her hat. Wall St., capitalism is the only things keeping you smelly buggers from being in a Cuba, Venezuela, or European style socialist state.

Take a look at the very theme of this report and the reporter. from CBS. I saw him in action at a healthcare town hall meeting. I was sitting 2 seats to the right of his camera and watched him direct the soundman to keep placing his boom mike at all the most virulent anti healthcare shouters who were in the minority. I spoke to the reporter after the meeting and tried to voice an opinion but he already had his piece ste and I have a DVD of the entire piece so I know how he manipulated it. He is one of the “if it bleeds it leads” ilk ERvery time I see anything by this character I hold it in contempt for I know he is not a journalist but a tabloid style schlock.

  • bob trundle

Where do they defecate and urinate?

  • Andy

Where is Obama? This is his base. Haven’t heard a peep from him with his support. That tells us all we need to know. This is community organizing at its best. Meanwhile the people being protested are his biggest donors. The protesters are begging the capitalists for money and supplies to continue this leftwing led folly.

  • Andy

Now imagine if Obama’s police corps were involved? This is the reason he will give for forming it. And this isn’t going to be over anytime soon. Until fast and furious and the solyndra scandal go away, this is wag the dog. No different than clinton’s bombing of Iraq and Afghanistan to divert from Lweinsky.

  • mariee

Reading these comments are very interesting, but the question is…did anyone here vote for Obama and now see his true colors? If we are preaching to our own choir, God help us.

  • horseshrink

Hmmm. But, it does make a person reasonably useful, in contrast to complaining, entitled people.

Business owners hire people … and without them the whiners would have no jobs at all.

  • Andy

Funny, the Tea Party had no leaders, no drugs, no violence, no litter, a coherent message, more rally attendees, threw hundreds of liberals out of office, have a plan for getting us out of debt and creating jobs, and this protest is historic? Want to know how bad this country is? Homeland Security thinks the Tea Party were the terrorists and these idiots are the revolutionaries.

  • William Ripskull

Hey all you moron protesters, who obviously lean way to the left. Do you realize that your government (i.e. the Obama administration) could have paid the full tuition of 27,000 students with the money they lost on Solyndra alone, and that there are dozens of Solyndra’s out there, waiting to fail. This whole green energy push by the government is an unsustainable sham and they are wasting billions of dollars pursuing it, using public money to fund crony companies with venture capital. Not to mention artificially driving the price of oil/gas up by restricting supplies. Let the free markets bring on green energy, it will come, it will be done efficiently, and it will be sustainable.

Also, do you realize it is the left that is destroying the middle class, not the right. Look at the old Soviet empire, with its ultra-rich ruling class and its poverty-stricken worker class. That is the communist structure. Communism can’t exist with a viable middle-class. That is why Lenin stated “The way to crush the bourgeoisie (i.e. middle class) is to crush them between the millstones of taxation and inflation”, then set about in doing just that.

If you want to live the American dream, capitalism is what is going to provide it. Its not always easy, but embrace it and with hard work it will pay off. The problems we’re having today are 100% government induced, and they’re trying to blame their failures on free enterprise and capitalism. Government produces nothing and lives of the labors of others and cannot continue to grow without larger growth in the free markets. It is unsustainable, it will lead to economic collapse, and it will lead to you spending the rest of your lives living miserable existences in poverty.

Ronald Reagan said it best, “Government is not the solution to our problems, government is the problem”. Right on, bro!

  • Jsmith

“We are the 99 percent, you know, and it’s not fair that people don’t have to pay taxes, that corporations don’t have to pay taxes and like we do. It’s like my mom pays more taxes than like Walmart does,” [said] Helen Curran…

More likely you are among the 50% who pays no taxes, and lives off the earned wealth of others. Why not be honest and say you want a bigger share of what someone else has earned? I won’t have any less respect for you if you do. Not sure I can have less respect than I do now.

  • horseshrink

    Which would I prefer?
    1. A nation run by complaining, entitled people who want the government to be powerful enough to fully redistribute wealth so that people’s incomes are equal.
    2. A nation with an economy fueled by energetic, resourceful entrepreneurs who reap the profits of their labors.

Gosh. Let me think about that awhile.

  • horseshrink

Actually, I’m pretty cool with “classical liberals” … the kind that started our country. Funny how the definition of liberal changed from minimal governmental involvement to colossal, controlling teat.

Encouraging discrimination against other American is now part of, and accepted as, college curriculum?

Protesting against a small minority of Americans for excercising their First Amendment right by choosing to wealthy is acceptable within a nation that has prided itself on equal rights for all?

Committing an illegal act according to the current standing Hate Crime Law, is now acceptable to the colleges in a country that promotes civil rights AND its students?

And why are we giving thousands of dollars in tuition and FEDERAL grants to colleges and universities who are now allowing their political activism to be revealed?

davidhp: You are protesting in the wrong place if you are concerned about constitutional rights. Those have been taken away by Congress. They have stepped all over what made this country great. Think of anything the government has run…it didn’t work out well for citizens! Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, The Fed…shall I go on?) The economy will be ever so much better if you get rid of the 160,000 pages of tax regulations and make America a place where people can risk their money to start a business and freely employ people (no unions) that want to work hard for their money. Government got rid of the gold standard making your money worthless but encourage everyone to spend more than they earned. The Fed is continually printing money and has run up a debt that is a huge burden that we are unable to repay. By the way, that increasing burden is your future unless you go after the right people. Smaller government and less micro-managing will make us strong again. And by the way, you should have thanked that man for his service. “Professors are asking their classes to take the day to actually go to this rally,” said Camille Rivera, a spokesperson for “United NY.”

Ah, yes. The professors, who work part time, have no specific job requirements, make a mint, have unbelievable pension and medical insurance plans, and get to send their kids to college for free? Those professors are telling their students — who pay millionaire money to go to college and borrow it all — to go fuc* off in the park and act like children instead of actually learning something useful? What a surprise.

You want to rage against The Man? Go picket your fuc*ed up college, where the cost of tuition has risen at 2 or 3 times the inflation rate for two decades because of the availability of cheap student loans. These know-nothing Marxists have zero incentive to keep college costs down because you students are stupid enough to pay anything. Your professors are screwing you to death, not some Wall Street economist.

Anarchists. Communists. That’s what they are. Community agitators. They can’t get their Marxists agenda through the legislative process because the majority of Americans refute their most wanted communist utopia.

Why does CBS waste their time with anarchists, and anti-American protesters but ignore at best and denigrate at worst the Tea Party. I have never worked for a poor person, and know the only way to have an equal society is to live in a communist state that holds the smart and motivated people back while propping up the dumb and lazy.

And have you ever ASKED yourself why manufacturing has declined? The regulations and EPA impact studies are arduous enough but then if you face lawsuits after lawsuits that exponentially increase the cost of getting up and running it is easier and less risky to just go somewhere else. Union working condition demands and no layoff contracts are icing on the cake.

And you’re forced to give it up because if you don’t, you go to prison. This is soft slavery. You want to get rid of slavery? Get rid of the monetary system based on debt that requires the income tax to pay the interest on that debt. Protest the Fed, not Wall Street.

This way you the American voters can’t say he did it.

He will leave the dirty work up to his labor Union thugs, leftist MoveOn. org, the public school system provides the army (student agitators), and it will be paid for by George Soros (communist) via Van Jones(communist) and the Tides Foundation and other George Soros organizations.

If the professors of said colleges and universities are so concerned about soaring tuition and debt, how many of them have taken pay cuts to help the students? How many teachers have approached the deans and presidents to demand that tuition costs be reduced? “Wall Street” has nothing to do with tuition grants, loans etc., This and the last Congress and this president, along with Sallie Mae etc., are the primary influencing factors.

The group also called for a student walkout at college campuses across the country to protest “against unforgivable student debt and soaring tuition rates.”

“Professors are asking their classes to take the day to actually go to this rally,” said Camille Rivera, a spokesperson for “United NY.”

“It’s like my mom pays more taxes than like Walmart does,” Helen Curran, a student at Pace University, told Young.”

Mother Jones reports that Walmart paid $5.9 BILLION in taxes in 2009. Helen’s mother must be a very wealthy woman. Herein lies a huge problem with this protest, it is based on misinformation bought in to by ignorant people. They don’t know how the system works and they don’t know the facts.

There is plenty to protest, but please do so with intelligence. And oh by the way, some Pace University is obviously cheating Helen out of her money.

What makes you think these people are entitled? This protest was made up of nurses, transport workers, teachers, and college students who have taken out loans that will cost them hundreds of thousands.

You seem very hostile towards these people, why is that? How will bank regulation really hurt a small business owner like yourself? How would forgiving student debt hurt you? Did you receive a bailout? These people are not simply complaining, they are trying to make change. That is useful!

TEA means Taxed Enough Already , by the government. most of the idiots at the wall st. protest don’t even know why they are protesting.

  • Carla

I have never met a college grad waiting for someone to give them a job.

I have seen many business owners who pay their employees next to nothing and whine while taking most of the money earned through the efforts of others.

Ive never seen so many lazy people in senior executive positions or wall street “investors” claiming to be productive when really they are only living off of their workers.

  • Zee

Tax breaks, nepotism, insider trading, cheating?

Can you honestly say that you think it was fair that the big banks received bailouts and then used some of that money for bonuses.

  • Jack

So we should cut wages to 80 cents an hour over here so labor here can compete? LOLOL talk about hopeless!
try a tariff on business that hires foreign labor. If they can have them Labor should have them.
cut pay for the top execs most of whom rarely work anyway and are extremely over compensated.

  • Don Juan

At least the Wall St protesters have real opponents . . . not fictional characters from an Ayn Rand novel. Who are the id**ts?

  • Jack

Nice assumption that parents are paying. Would these be the same over privileged parents who pushed our national debt to these extreme levels , who have been swearing they will pay it off for decades now?
Yeah, you all have room to talk..lolol!!

They are protesting corporate greed , the kind that nearly wiped out our economy. The jobs, credit , people’s homes and everything else went with that greed and you still support it.

  • Goldman Sachs VP

The ‘Bailout’ was only a loan and was REPAID IN FULL WITH INTEREST. Please stop the whining and start looking for work. Be productive not destructive. Be part of the solution not part of the pollution.

forgive student debt? i believe it is called a contract. what next? forgive car loans, b/c hey dood, it is like i ‘need’ that car to get a job, and like…you know my rent costs too much, like, gov’t can you make that guy quit charging me so much.

if you can’t afford the bill, don’t sign the contract.

  • Jack

Perhaps a “now Hiring” sign would help.

  • gid tanner

yes OBAMA came from outerspace !!! wwe know it –look at the ears . he is a vulcan . we must protect the richest one percent who own 90 percent of our nation’s wealth . if that wealth were shared , then we’d have too much middle class and people couldn’t be forced to do whatever we special citizens want . next , these protestors will be demanding health care that doesn’t allow for big profits ! and then they’ll even try to stop these wars that we make so much money from .

  • Dennis D

The students are usually the easiest to manipulate. Lenin and Mao and Pol Pot learned this. Most of them are Communists.

  • John

Are we really supposed to care that a bunch of spoiled college kids are going to walk out of class. Jesus, this is boring.

A bunch of smelly, lazy hippies screaming and complaining about the very institutions that built this country and made it cushy enough for them to be losers and get away with it. You would be dead in any third world country, idiots.

    Get a job.

  • John

that verse would only be applicable if Wall Street and the banks were conducting business in a temple of God. you should read the verse before you post it.

  • John

thanks for the commentary, useful idiot.

  • hotpickle

You’ll hear nothing, because the White House is BEHIND the OWS “protest”. In fact, the talking points they’re using were supplied by the WH! (Not to mention the list of “official goals”, which include free health care for all, free higher ed for all, etc.)

  • John

This is right out of Saul Alinsky’s book (Obama’s favorite) Rules for Radicals!!! Obama is not going to leave office Quietly!!!!!

  • MDWhite

I saw the same kind of mindlessness in 1999 at the WTO Ministerial in Seattle. The real clincher there was the Longshoremen’s Union protesting against international trade – the very thing that provided them with their outrageous salaries and benefits.

They marched arm in arm with anarchists, communists, wannabe hippies, graying ’60s-type radicals and brainless kids from the local universities whose parents were paying their bills for them.

Some things never change and the face of stupid almost always remains the same.

  • Mack

no, Jack Leg, we should let the free market determine what the pay should be for that job. Some jobs would be paid less and some would be paid more, instead of the marxist approah to give everyone the same minium pay. Idiot.

  • Joel

They should be at the White House not Wall Street. The irony of the Marxist phrase, “the guilty blaming the innocent”.

  • Pounce Kitty

In my youth we marched against the Vietnam War and for Civil Rights. These unfocused and misinformed boobs are a disgrace to the word “protest.” They have no idea what they’re doing, except they’re jealous of successful people. Obama has created this brainless monster with his incendiary speech. Obama should be impeached for crimes against the United States.

Endless bank bailouts, yet another violation of our rights. Add it to the list of gov’t violations of our rights:
They violate the 1st Amendment by placing protesters in cages, banning books like “America Deceived II” and censoring the internet.
They violate the 2nd Amendment by confiscating guns.
They violate the 4th and 5th Amendment by molesting airline passengers.
They violate the entire Constitution by starting undeclared wars for foreign countries.

Go ahead, you can log off now, pick your silly sign up, and get back in line with the other babies on wall street.

The problem is President Obama and his administration which is giving GE tax breaks while they ship jobs out of the US and Obama who is taking money from large corporations and then accusing them of the problem. Instead of marching on Wall Street (which has been created by George Soros, one of the biggest Capitalists and hypocrites of the 21st century, why are they not marching on Washington and specifically the White House – that is the center of the problem? Don’t be duped by Obama and Soros! Wake up America!

Cicero Marcus Tullius – Does this embody the current Democrat Party – I think so
    106-43 BC

“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor, he speaks in accents familiar to his victims and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear.”

Then why are you wasting everybody’s time and your parents money? If you’re such a loser and a p*ssy that you’ve decided you’re going to be a failure in life before you’re even 22 then just go and do it! Go pick out your spot down by the bus station and quit sniveling to everybody.

Save that spot in college for a kid that’s going to do something with the opportunity. maybe that kid will throw you quarter on his way to work some day.

  • junkmanfoxx

Jack, what planet are you from? Congress pushed the debt. Voters have tried for decades to get Congress to pass a balanced budget amendment. AND THE PROTESTERS WANT SOMETHING FOR NOTHING – that is greed. They want to protest those who would otherwise give them jobs. They want the biggest Wall Street flunkee in history re-elected, Obama whose administration has given trillions to them in Quantitative Easing and other measures. Corporate greed? They are the greedy ones. They feel entitled to jobs they have not earned, entitled to free education, entitled to evrything. Some corporations may be greedy, but this is a planned, staged, Obama re-election shot with disinformation and lies across the board!

  • Smackdaddy

No one forces those employees to work for that employer. If they feel they are underpaid they are more than welcome to leave and find more lucrative employment. Better yet they can invest their lifes worth and risk everything to start their own business.

Apparently you don’t participate in recruiting on college campuses.

  • junkmanfoxx

LOL Carla! Name some lazy senior executives? They are the college grads who went through the same thing, except they actually WORKED their way to the top. This is all about greed, sloth and laziness. Look at the complaints about student loans and debt! Blame that on the establishment Carla, because it’s the government running the schools and charging the money, not the so-called “greedy corporations” that these students would love if they hire them.

RM, what happened to responsibility? I am hostile towards people who take no accountability for decisions made, and then, expect someone (the gov’t, the rich, etc.) to make those bad decisions right. What kind of change are these protesters trying to make? I know one thing, promoting dependency on some one other than yourself is not a good change. I hope you understand that RM.

We don’t really need to declare war, When war is already declared on us.

  • junkmanfoxx

ironage, here’s some facts that these idiots who are protesting do not seem to get:

    1) Their “student debt” they are complaining about comes from the government, not Wall Street.

    2) The very professors who are sending them to Wall Street to protest are the problem as they are the reason their tuition is so high, hate Wall Street because they cannot earn a living there, and are drawing exhhorbitant pensions and benefits and perkks from the tax rolls.

    3) Obama, who they keep saying they want ot reelect, has given more to these so-called greedy corporations than any leader of any cilivilization since the dawn of time when you take quantitative easing, bailouts and the like into account.

    4) Thye have not worked at all yet, and are protesting the people who went through school like them and actually have worked and succeeded getting the fruits of their labors – which by the way were needed in the early years to pay for that student debt given to them by their instructors!

So I challenge them to do this: PROTEST THE PROFESSORS AND GOVERNMENT WHO ARE NOT GIVING THEM THE EDUCATION THEY NEED TO COMPETE IN THE WORKFORCE AND ARE SADDLING THEM WITH STUDENT DEBT AND NOT THE CORPORATIONS WHO GIVE THEM THE CHANCE TO PAY IT OFF AND SUCCEEED!

  • Harry

These spoiled kids don’t realize they are being led around by the punk -ss union members trying to socialize this country. They should be focusing the attention on the politicians who got us into this mess and would love to lead us into a socialist society!

  • lee

why no blame to the one(s) who bailed WS out? corporate greed is just a blanket accusation to blame the “rich” even though they have no idea who exactly the “rich” are. directionless and thoughtless, these protesters are misguided liberal tools with media accomplices arrogantly claiming the higher ground while blocking traffic, disrupting businesses ect.

  • Chris

My father was a military instructor at West Point and I was born there. He would not recommend a school walk out as this does not make much sense and this will be played as such. It will not help corporate greed by losing a day of education. But protesting corporate greed and helping us everyday Joe’s in a world that has seen us all become more and more separate from the powers at be. He would love. He saw the real start of the separation of classes during his 2 tours in Vietnam.

As with any protesters, there are people who use it for their agenda. I think the Tea Party was a great concept when Ron Paul was ACTUALLY fighting for less tax, but has been high jacked by Fox News and the Republican agenda. There are plenty of liberals who agree with the basic concepts of the Tea Party (when it was formed) And now this protest, which is just as important as the initial Tea Party Protests, and will be hi jacked by some Left Wing agenda.

This is what the powers at be want. Us fighting each other on here, rather then seeing the actual common we have. Can any Tea Party member here say they approve of corporate greed, or that it does not happen? Are you not wanting a fair and equal tax? I think everyone has a hell of a lot more in common then they think, but allow themselves to be properly separated, just as the propaganda minister wants it. (whom ever it may be)

Remember at the heart of this, you will find people who love America, who dream of a fair and balanced world, to raise a family in the freedoms we hold so dear, but have lost and are willing to lose based on some fear other side is so different and will eat you children. I think this protest shows a good cross group of people and includes military families, Army and Marine soldiers. Are there not truer Americans at this time in our country?

If anyone wants actual change, then finding our common good is our only hope. Wall Street Protesters, do not turn this into a nonsensical frat party, and do not let others do it for you. Tea Party members, do not let you objectives become clouded be the right wing, as they are just using you as a voter base. They only showed interest when they realized you could give them votes, now they are changing your agenda, right under your feet. People .. come together and stand up for us. The American People these politicians say they love some much. Show them we can work together and we are the true power here.

Democrat, did not vote for Obama, will most likely vote for Ron Paul. States Rights advocate, Gun Right Advocate, For protests of corporate greed and a fair and equal tax based on the quality of life / How hard they work.

And for God sakes, when you have 10 Million dollars 20% tax taken, you are still having a great life. When you have 10 Thousand dollars and they take 20% your life is ruined. Lets try and remember to be human beings first and look out for our fellow man. Not our lazy man, but our fellow man.

    Rant over.

And Good Luck to your son sir, I am sure he will be a great leader in our future. I know the quality of people West Point can produce.

Tariffs don’t work comrade. That’s why Honda, Toyota, Nissan, BMW and others has plants in the U.S. Late in 20th century when the U.S. automakers started to lose ground to foreign automakers union backed politicians pass taxes/tariffs aginst these companies. Resulting these companies opening plants in the U.S. to get arounf the taxes/tariffs. These types of laws do not work. The fix in this case should have been a better product for the U.S. automakers. Instead the tax had to bailout the unions of two of these three failures.

Klaus, you have never been in the military I can tell. The military does not train its sailors or soldiers to do any such thing. Boot camp gets rid of the mamsy pamsy whiney individualist ideals while the rest of training makes you work for the USA’s best interest. The Military is not a socialist tool, as the indistrious seek to rise through the ranks through accomplishment and are rewarded with that rise.

Do not attack the military using the freedoms they safeguard.

I can certainly understand why these protests are occurring what I do find disingenuous is the unions saying they are standing with these folks all the while as they are stealing these folks money having taken bailout after bailout when the crowd realizes these folks are the same people with their hand out to the big government money men things are going to get really nasty .

  • Billy

That was very eloquent Chris. Corporate Greed is not the problem…greed is the problem….Just as these spoiled college kids who complain about student loans spend hundreds a month on beer (greed)… or the 15000 retired state employees in California with pensions over $250,000.00 (greed),
The number of educators receiving $100,000-plus annual pensions jumped 650 percent (greed), the crack head down the street that gets $25,000 year disability (greed). I grew up a very poor kid from Appalachia. I hated the rich because they kept me down. You were rich if your kids got several pair of shoes, and had a nice car…Then I grew up and worked hard and realized that most people work very hard for their money and made a lot of sacrifices/risk to get to that position.

The threat here is targeting one sector of “greed”. These people are the “useful idiots” of marxist. If you do not see that then you are as intelligent as you wish to portray.

  • Joel

So we should judge people for the actions of 200+ years ago? Somehow I don’t see you telling these stories to Muslims and other nations about their atrocities. This is proof of what I’ve been saying all along – these protests aren’t about money or jobs. It’s about Anti Jew/Anti American propaganda. Too bad you are too chicken to admit it publicly.

  • Joel

Corporate greed? You mean the desire to not out of business?

What wiped out our economy is lower class greed that put people into homes they couldn’t afford because the banks were railroaded into making these loans by Andrew Cuomo and Bawney Fwank, with his call for “Affowdable Housing!!!! Affowdable Housing!!!!!” They didn’t want to make these loans but they were forced to by the vote hungry “populist” liberals.

The nationals debt has been pushed to extreme level by LIBERALISM!!

    LIBERALISM

    Call you say “LIBERALISM?”

So the moron that earned $40,000 a year and bought a $500,000 house through a government agency (Fannie Mae) wasn’t greedy? The government backed the loan. That is what nearly wiped out this country…it is the housing bubble. Everybody lost except the organizations that were bailed out…The governent did not allow for the corporations to fail. • Kevin Pearson

You make it sound like they have been forced out of a family farm that had been handed down from generation to generation since the Revolution.
The “homes” that people lost were homes that they purchased with a mortgage that they would not have received in a sane world.
Nobody lost their rentals that they were living in before they took on these mortgages that they shouldn’t have ever have. The “homes” that they lost were places that they were essentially squatting and didn’t belong there in the first place.

If any of these “students” are arrested what are they charged with?
Will it affect their future job searches (If they intend to work?)

Why are they attending college? I thought it was to graduate and earn a decent wage.

Many have pointed out that the government has taken over college loan industry. Don’t they know that?

Many of those paying for their college educations are using investment returns to do so.To them I say..u get what u pay for and in this case it’s not much.

Ironage–sooo true. These poor useful idiots are the product of the American education system –er–”re-education camps” which means they have no sense of what they are demonstrating against of for.

My son worked on Wallstreet as an attorney and is quite political. He checked to see which zip code had more donations on the national political race and guess what, the Wall Street zip code gave more donations than any other largely–TO THE DEMOCRAT PARTY. Obama got more than any other candidate except Chris Dodd from Goldman Sachs– So these guys are against Wall Street and for re-election of Obama. Totally makes NO sense. Obama and his regime are responsible for the problem and they are demanding he be re-elected.

As I said, Useful idiots with no knowledge only cabbage heads filled with mantras from “Rules for Radicals!” Read it if you haven’t already and you’ll know how they have zombized our children.

Ummm..a couple of thoughts when you’re going to rant (and I do love a good rant) you need to be a bit more thoughtful, I’m not quite sure what Titunic means, and it’s “martial” law, which shouldn’t be confused with Marshal.

With all due respect, even though the military filters out the wimps, they are in fact a socialist and even communist organization. It’s not an attack, just a simple fact. They provide “common” defense. In this country, our safety from common enemies is a right enforced by our military. With or without the weenies, extend the same idea to healthcare and you’d call it what it is, socialism. I urge you to think about it. It is possible this country has slipped more than you realize.

Me and my coworkers must be the dumbest “rich” people around…making a very good living by working hard and sacrifice AND paying over 40% in taxes per year. The protesters have their facts all wrong. The only ones not paying their fair share are a very select few ultramillionaires and billionaires (some of the same celebrity supporters screaming and yelling). Now, after paying too much taxes for years, sacrificing family time, health and leisure time, I have the world hating me for being successful. Thank you Obama for creating a wonderful, cohesive country in which to live.

Iron Im not sure who youre calling a spoiled hippie wanna be. Im a New Yorker in my 40s thats also a vet I(gulf1) and Im not terribly liberal. Innever took a class on Marxism, and think if you wanna make a buck you have to hustle.. to that end, I run a small construction business here in NYC with millionaire clients who are wall street Ceo’s. One client in particular is a vice president of a major credit card company. He ripped up the side walk in front of his house and put in hot water pipes to melt the snow. Now he doesn’t have to pay the kid up the block to shovel it. Its ridiculous. Guess where that money came from to do the work Iron? Corporate tax breaks and borderline usury practices with his company. I dont want to hear about him paying my bills. In fact I fired him as a client and cut up my credit cards. I wanna hear about him giving back and paying his share of taxes

There seems to be some polarized misconception that corporations are greedy (evil) and government is not (good.)

Power is power, and governmental people can be just as greedy for it as corporate CEOs.

    Difference?

A corporation cannot throw me in prison at gunpoint for refusing to give it money – to do with as it pleases. I can refuse to give a corporation money by declining to buy his/her product. I can even overthrow corporations by starting my own and out-competing them.

Doesn’t work that way with the government.

So … which form of power causes me less worry?

  • horseshrink
  • horseshrink

And if you try to escape prison, you’re shot.
Even “evil” “greedy” corporations don’t take our money in such a manner.

Now wait!!!! You expect liberals to make sense????????????!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?

  • Kevin Pearson

So let me set this stratight…. he paid YOU now many thousands of dollars in order to avoid paying some kid what $30? and you are complaining?

So essentially he paid you, how many snow storms in advance to do this work?
Sounds to me like a pretty smart cookie. That”s why he runs a bigger company then you.

  • Kevin Pearson

Did you ever think that he wouldn’t be able to find any kids willing to do the work? Especially if he lives in a neighborhood with other execs, then their kids wouldn’t be doing that.

  • Kevin Pearson

What about crashing the economy for the sake of rigging a Presidential election?

Come on, do you expect anyone to believe that the market just happened to collapse in the middle of September of an election year? The whole thing was orchestrated by Geroge Soros to get Obama elected.

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

  • Kevin Pearson

And the ultra billionsaires are liberalsdemocrats to MAKE SURE that no one else can become ultrabillionaires.

They don’t want anyone joining their exclusive club.

  • RB

Those of you against the protesters: unless you are one of the corporate ceos that make millions every year, you may be comfy now but just wait, if something is not done now you will be out in the street shortly… everything is fragile right now. the people in the streets protesting are not just out there for themselves, they are out there for your sons and daughters to have a better brighter future!

  • rb

We as individuals are responsible for “creating a wonderful, cohesive country in which to live” not a politician. What are you doing to create that?

  • horseshrink

@ RB “Those of you against the protesters: … they are out there for your sons and daughters to have a better brighter future!”

Gosh, RB! Why, thanks! I feel comforted that my kids’ futures are effectively secured by people so busy complaining that they no longer have time to look for a job.

No doubt they are much more important than the people who are actually working for a living right now.

  • cntrlfrk

Just think kids, when you finally do find a job (if ever) you will have about $100,000 of your portion of the National Debt to pay back thanks to Obama!

I attended Occupy Wall street this past Wednesday and I participated in a walk out at my Brooklyn College campus the same day. It was empowering to be surrounded by a diverse group of people- young, old, Black, Yellow, Brown, White, Muslim, Jewish, Christian, Rastafarian, poor, working class, middle class, immigrant, etc. with something uniting us. I agree many of the people that participate in the Occupy Wall Street movement are uninformed or misinformed but that doesn’t make the things they are asking for and protesting about any less important or necessary. People here are talking as if we all want handouts. Some do, but I don’t- and neither do many of my constituents. CUNY and SUNY students just want accessible, equitable education and have the right to know how money allocated for the institutions they study in is being used. CUNY was free until several decades ago, when they enacted an open door policy, and as the pigmented people poured in- tuition was imposed- and is now being raised several hundred dollars per semester. Most people that attend CUNY institutions do so expecting an affordable education and with every tuition increase that expectation decreases and a college education becomes less accessible to someone that wants it. I am incredibly idealistic and I am fully aware of that but people shouldn’t have to choose between buying groceries and buying textbooks. I work, and attend school, and am a mom- so I know nothing is impossible- but there are people living in dire circumstances that are barely able to afford tuition as it is. The same way taxpayers are disgruntled when they feel they’re money is being misused without their consent- that’s how students feel when the tuition is raised without their knowledge, scholarships they used to be eligible for change their requirements, they receive bills for semesters they already paid for because there is now a differential due to the unexplained tuition increase, and the pool in the gym is re-tiled while the building that houses the music equipment falls apart. I don’t think it’s absurd to want a say in your own education. As for the many other groups and ideals being promoted in Occupy Wall Street there is one resounding theme and that is that more Americans should be considered in the governing and policy making of America. That makes perfect sense to me if this is to ever be a true democracy.

THERE ARE NO JOBS! DON’T YOU PEOPLE GET IT?

  • horseshrink

    There are always jobs.
    Just not jobs you want.
I suspect many that you won’t take are “beneath” you, or some place that requires a geographic move.
If there aren’t even any SUCH jobs for you, then you shouldn’t have so many felonies on your record.

  • Corporations Don’t Owe You Anything

I make time for work, school, my son, and attending occupy wall street. We aren’t all stinky bumbs -_-

  • Tajh Danielle Sutton

What needs to be acknowledged by Democrats and Republicans alike is that it is people, not politicians that are supposed to make this country great. Stop yelling about Obama being responsible. He’s not the first President to bark without biting! We need to be educated, active citizens and organize to ensure that our various and numerous needs are met. This is what the participants in occupy wall street are trying to do. We are not unemployed slobs living on our parent’s dime. We are not (all) band wagoners who saw signs and came running. We aren’t asking to be spoon fed the necessities for life. We are asking that equitable work, and affordable education be made available to all Americans, and that in the event times get disastrously rough, measures be taken to ensure that families are still able to feed their children. I don’t think it’s insane to ask the richest 1% of Americans to pay a higher tax rate than those living below the poverty line in times of financial distress. I can see why that 1% wouldn’t agree with such a measure but, doesn’t it make sense from a logical, impractical stand point?

  • Tajh Danielle Sutton

What they’re trying to do is take the interest of the government off of big business and profit and focus it on PEOPLE. Many different types of people with the same basic needs. Jobs and education. I can see why you look at it that way because it is a rather unfocused movement but I’m hoping this is only the beginning.

  • Tajh Danielle Sutton

We urge them to work here just as much as you say Mexico urges them to come here. We utilize their labor and goods in various industries and thus increase our profits.

Top 10% of earners paid 70% of all federal income taxes.
The bottom 50% paid 3% of all federal income taxes.

The U.S. taxes the wealthiest more severely than Sweden, Norway, Denmark, France, Italy, Germany or the U.K. (more than 24 western hemisphere countries, actually.)

Your words are more a reflection of jealousy and entitlement than reality.

National wealth is not a fixed pie – a closed system – one person earns fully at the expense of another. If you are energetic, intelligent, persistent and creative enough, you can help to create national wealth.

That’s much more useful than complaining about needing somebody else’s money because they have so much more than you do, and getting politicians to take it for you.

Read P.J. O’Rourke’s “Eat the Rich” and go run a business of your own, living fully from its proceeds.

Then come back and see if you’re able to believe what you just wrote.

  • horseshrink

NY is in the top ten most expensive states in which to live. Additionally, NY is ranked by George Mason University’s Mercatus Center as “the least free state in the union.” It’s very, very expensive to regulate that much. Tajh, that has much more to do with your escalating tuition than “pigmented people”.

Living in New York is optional. 1.5 million (8%) of your population between 2000-2008 have already figured that out. Vamoose.
    http://www.empirecenter.org/pb/2009/10/empirestateexodus102709.cfm

To the extent that education is a priority for you, I suggest relocating and establishing residency in a state where college tuition is cheaper. Use the principles of a market economy to your advantage.

    BTW …
    We are a republic.
    … not a democracy.

  • horseshrink

From what you have written, it appears you are energetic and very capable of dealing with adversity. My hat is off to you.

You also describe yourself to be an idealist. Hey. It’s a free country (well … maybe not in NY.)

I’m betting you’re a bit younger than me. There’s a fair chance that life experience will shift your views.

Me … I became more convinced that government is not the ubiquitous solution to the wants and needs of its citizenry. I don’t care to give government that much power. (Look at the mess it’s created so far!)

You know, I don’t mind the rich being rich. And I don’t really care how rich they get. That’s part of free enterprise. What bothers me is that the poor seem to be getting poorer as well, and that it seems to be tied somehow to the rich getting richer. Now if the poor are losing money, is that money going to the rich or are the rich bankers pulling money out of thin air now? There is only so much wealth to be had.
