FEMA Centers Start Closing As Deadline For Irene Aid Approaches

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – As affected residents and business owners try to put their lives back together following the Hurricane and Tropical Storm Irene six weeks ago, the deadline to file for federal assistant is approaching.

FEMA's loan disaster center in Connecticut is scheduled to close on Thursday, two centers in New Jersey are expected to shut down on Oct. 15, and four New York City centers closed last Friday.

The deadline for New York and New Jersey residents, however, is not until Oct. 31 and Connecticut residents have until Nov. 3.

FEMA has already approved more than $106 million in aid to disaster survivors and residents can file applications online at disasterrecovery.gov or call the FEMA hotline at 1-800-621-3362.
