Rex Ryan: Jets ‘Fortunate’ To Have Brian Schottenheimer On Staff

NEW YORK (WFAN) — Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer is no stranger to the hot seat.

Schottenheimer’s system is again under fire after New York’s sluggish start, not to mention a report in the New York Daily News that claims several players have individually complained to coach Rex Ryan about his offense.

Through all of it, Ryan is keeping the faith.

“I feel great,” Ryan said on Monday. “We’re fortunate to have Brian coaching with us. I look at that entire offensive staff … that whole group is an excellent staff. We’ll get this thing righted.”

According to the Daily News, receivers Plaxico Burress, Santonio Holmes and Derrick Mason have each gone to Ryan to sound off on Schottenheimer’s play calling.

The Jets issued a statement denying the report on Sunday. Ryan and the players involved also vehemently denied it after their 30-21 loss to New England.

On Monday, Ryan reiterated his point.

“I said it was untrue, because it was untrue,” he said. “The great thing is, with that one, I can guarantee it was untrue because I was the guy supposedly that had the conversation. Well, I can tell you this: 100 percent, I did not have the conversation. So that was it.”

But the whole hubbub has many wondering if the chemistry in the Jets’ locker room is a little off.

“I don’t think the chemistry is bad, I just think that altogether we are inconsistent,” said tight end Dustin Keller. “We need to be playing more consistent football. When we’re on, I feel like we are really, really on, and there can be times when we are really, really off.”

“This team is not going to (break) just because we’re 2-3 right now,” said Ryan. “That’s when you get stronger. That’s when you come in together and you build character. This is a resilient bunch. I’m telling you, we’ll see. I believe in this football team.”

Do you agree that the Jets are “fortunate” to have Schottenheimer? Let us know in the comments below…

sanchez keeps making same mistakes defense is hardly what jets advertise. NE was the worst rated defense, we had trouble with it

The Jets Defense is horrible against the Run AND the Pass. “Reviis-Island-What??!!
Cromartie has done more harm than good for the Jets this season. His idiotic fumble vs. the Raiders was the entire reason they lost that game (not to mention his 4 penalties)… And he still has the nerve to talk?

Mark Sanchez vs Patriots… (105% Passer Rating, 2 TD’s, no turnovers).
What is up with the biased agenda of the of the majority Mainstream Sports Media bashing Sanchez constantly – whether he throws for 360 yards, rushes for a TD, while throwing for 2 more etic. ?!
Since week # 1, The Jets are not running the ball as much, simply because they have no run game. Their RB’s have performed horribly.
The Jets Offensive line is ridiculous. They can’t run-block or Pass Block, so it is quite amazing what Sanchez has been able to accomplish considering his WR’s can’t get open, and can’t catch (they must lead the NFL is dropped passes).
Against Baltimore, not only could they not run the ball, but the offensive line was so bad that Sanchez hardly ever had more than a second to release the ball before getting blind-sided by an untouched Pass Rusher! (Vick would have had 10 sob-story media conferences by now if he had to play with the Jet’s O-LIne).
It’s sad to see how the media ignores the facts, when it comes to Mark Sanchez.

second of all offensive needs to protect sanchez mangold is back that is awsome we need as a team as fans to make this team fighting and its time for rex to stop trash talking and start thinking about winning games..

maybe, just maybe, Sanchez is not as good as you think he is. He’s a 3rd yr QB, enough with the excuses. Part of the reason the Jets are losing is because of the QB.

Protect Sanchez you say, seems the Jets fans protect him more then the offensive line does. Sanchez has a probelm, he holds on to the ball too long and that’s not the fault of the offensive line.

He needs to see the whole field better and be better at moving with the ball behind the line. Either you have it or not. Sanchez does not have it.
