Some residents who plan on fighting the proposal believe the town isn't equipped to properly manage and patrol the park.

Others, however, say it is needed.

Ruth Delgado has 10 grandchildren, 10 reasons, she says, why the park, planned for along Broadway Greenlawn Road, should be built.

"Saturday's I take the kids all the way to Herschel Park, for them to play in the playground," she told WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs. "I have to do it," said Delgado.

Delgado says child safety should overrule all other concerns.

Town officials are presently weighing neighborhood sentiment before deciding whether to build the park.
